Stupid rear brakes question

Been trying to figure out why my car vibrates when slowing down from high speed. It feels like it's the entire front of the car is going to shake apart into a hundred pieces.
I can feel it really bad through the steering wheel. Ive replaced damn near everything in the front suspension except the rotors (had them turned or resurfaced).
A friend looked at my rear rotors and told me they were toast and they could be the reason. I know they are dangerously bad but it doesn't make sence that the entire front of my car would shake when high speed braking because my rear rotors are bad. Am I wrong?
Can bad rear rotors cause front vibration when braking?

Good points. Going to fix them tomorrow morning. Ive actually been meaning to do them for a while but Ive been busy knocking problems out one by one from high to low priority.
Seems like when I get something fixed something else completely different brakes or while I'm fixing something I notice something else that needs to be addressed.
Owning this car is like having a child. One day I came out side and there was atf all over the deck. I filled it back up now I cant find the leak and it seems to be fine. couple of days later I find the deck is covered in brake fluid and my brakes feel really mushy. I refill the canister but cant find the leak and it hasn't done it again.
I think someone is popping the hood of my car at night and siphoning my fluids reservoir by reservoir just to screw with me. /Rant

Brakes should be on the "High Priority" list. All the hard work making it look nice and go fast gets cancelled out when the brakes fail and you rear end someone at 50mph.:p

Are you using Ebay rotors? I had an issue with brake pedal pulsation/steering wheel shimmy when using Ebay rotors that no amount of resurfacing could eliminate. The reason being- the inside part of the rotor that centers the rotor around the hub was NOT tapered. Since it was not tapered, it couldn't sit completely flat on the hub. As the wheel was tightened around it, it would slightly distort the rotor causing the pulsation. The only way to fix it was to taper the inside part of the rotor myself with a die grinder and diamond burr bit. It wouldn't harm anything as far as centering since the wheel studs would hold the rotor centered anyway. This worked fine but I eventually switched to Powerslot rotors. I believe the current rotors offered on Ebay are now tapered.

As far as I know theyre not ebay rotors but I wouldnt rule it out. I actually ordered some new rotors from advanced auto forever ago but they never arrived. I wish I could just replace all 4 and see what happens but that's not a opton at the moment so the best I can do is get them resurfaced.

My right rear caliper siezed, and is giving me a little shake on braking. I just replace the front rotors & pads, and left rear pads, still have shake. So yes, I would also say that a rear brake/caliper/rotor problem can give you a problem :)

Getting them re-surfaced will cost almost as much as new ones, and if they're that bad you probably won't be able to cut them anyway. Even if you do cut them once they're thinned they'll tend to warp pretty quick. You'll be better off replacing them.

Steve,

I've been right there with you on most of your advice, but on this one I need to disagree. If you have plenty of meat left you your rotors, I would (and have on a few occasions) taken them to Pep Boys to be turned/resurfaced. Its $8 a rotor, you can drop them off and then pick them up in an hour or so and they're like brand new!!

One of the first things I did to my Stealth when I got it last Nov. was just that. My only regret is that I did the fronts only. Come spring, if there's still enough metal there, I'll probably have them all done again.

If you can point me to some $8 rotors, I'm there ;)

BTW - Maybe I should move to Ohio, around here it was $9 per surface ($18 total) last time I checked.
Ah, you may be right, it might have been $9 :)

Still better than 4 new rotors!!
