Wiring POwer Folding mirrors :)

I FINALLY picked up some power folding mirrors!

so excited about them. I never thought the day would come until I saw them on ebay a few days ago :)

My question is, could it be possible to wire the mirrors in such a way that they fold out and fold in when you turn on your car and turn off the car? If it IS possible, what wire(s) would you have to use off the mirrors and where would you splice them into to operate this way when the car is turned on/off?

I'd also like to have them operate with the mirror switch (which also came with the mirrors) during regular driving/idling.

if you have any ideas guys lemme know!

I have read this thread of yours

http://www.3si.org/forum/showthread.php?t=179515&page=2&pp=10

but I still wanted to know if you (Evan) figured out how to wire them so that they open and close during start up and shut down (i.e. lexus).

I hope the mirrors I bought come with the black relay. Here is the link to the item I won on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...aymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7989075189&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWA:IT

I've already emailed the seller about the black relay box and if he doesn't send it or have it, I'll try to pick it up from that "Charleston" place in the UK

help a brotha out :)

probably something similar to a window module, only problem is that i think those work off of the alarm being set. but you probably could install a window module solely conected to the mirrors. set the module to "roll up/mirrors out" when your accessories wire has power, and then to "roll down/mirros in" when you take your keys out. makes some sense in my head but evan will set you straight. :D

I saw a set on ebay and let 'em pass.

I do believe there is a tech write-up available on GTOUK website.

pyun,

Congrats on the mirrors. I also have a set, but haven't installed them yet. I am missing one part, one of the black spacers at the base of the mirror that fits between the door skin and the mirror. The one I have has "R548016" molded into the underside.

Could you tell me

1) which side i have (right side I'm guessing from the "R")?
2) what PN is molded into the other one?
3) are both symmetrical? or identical? or different size?

Thanks!

Hi Jeff and thanks for the congratulations LOL

My mirrors are in the mail as we speak and I will let you know as soon as I get them.

Lucius,
Left side is L 548017.
I only have the left mirror, and I am waiting to receive the right mirror from Japan.
Regards.

haha nice thread, i feel like a celebrity! i found this thread from a crosspost on our local forum.

ok i'll make a wiring diagram when someone gets all the componants, i'm really busy right now and don't have the time to spend time on it for kicks.

pyun, i've run into 1 big problem with the mirrors, they are angled for right hand drive!, so no only do they look really messed up on a LHD car (look how one mirror is higher than the other in my video), you can't see a damn thing with them! its hard to explain, but sit in the passenger side of your car (with the LHD mirrors) and try to adjust the mirrors to so you can see as you normally would. the problem that really you can't. the mirror themselves are different because they only came on japanese RHD cars! so my only answer is the take the folding mechanism and graft it in our LHD mirrors, it will be A LOT of work, but i belive i can and will get it done eventually, in the far far future......

and even the holes for the mirrors are spaced differently on our cars, the mirrors will bolt on to the door, but i mean how far the holes are from the front of the door. just look how the mirror on the pass door is farther back than the drivers side, well it the opposite on RHD cars.

yea, i remember you posting about the height difference in the L&R mirrors in your other thread about the PF mirrors. As soon as I get the mirrors in my hands, I will post pics of all the wiring, relays and harnesses that comes with them and maybe we can all learn something and go through it step by step.

I had bought a set of these also but as shooter83 points out they're made for right hand cars. The issue I found also was that the base of the mirrors was larger than ours so I couldn't swap the innards, our bases are much slimmer. Also when mounted the mirrors are at different angles from the body, if you look at the drivers mirror it's at a different angle then the passenger side, so if this is reversed as int he rh cars you can't see out of them properly.

While it's a real cool mod I gave up and sold them on ebay.
