I own a 1997 3000gt sohc and my friend told me that my oil pressure gauge read high. I'm not sure if he's right or not, but it did make me realize. When I'm cruising at 50mph in 4th gear, my oil pressure level is at the 3/4th mark. To be exact, it points at the 10th line, since we don't have numbers i call it the 10th line out of 17 total. And at idle in neutral it's in the 4th line out of 17. I took a picture of both, but I have no clue how to post it onto this thread. so, is my oil pressure a little high or is it just right?

The long dash mark on the gauge it should be there when at idol if it's lower than that then add oil till it reads at the half way mark at idol speed. An remember these cars need the proper lubrication so don't use cheap oil get the good stuff like royal purple. I use brad Penn grade number 1 green racing oil with a lucas oil synthetic stableizer.

Let me understand this correctly: You, instead of checking the dipstick, use the STOCK - garbage - oil pressure gauge and the spot it's at on the tick marks to indicate whether or not you need more oil?

My stock gauge on my VR4 sits at about the second tick from the bottom when hot... if I followed your technique, I would probably fill the oil up to the filler cap before it hit the middle of the gauge.

Have you ever seen what Lucas oil stabilizer does to oil? It makes the oil FOAM like a motherfucker.. and guess what? Aerated foamy oil does not lubricate. this is also why its very BAD to overfill your engine with oil.
