Unbelievable brake squeal!

I've had a serious brake squeal in my rear driver side. It squeal 80% of the time whether I'm braking or not. I changed the rotors and pads and it's still there! Possibly a little worse. I used brak-kleen and all that mess. Anything else I could check?

I had that too, its certain rotors w certain pads, I went back to stock and it was all good. squeel was gone.

Hmmm crazy, I did not know that. So I ended swapping the inner with the outer pad and that somehow did the trick.

The squeal is caused by corrosion between the pad and the caliper piston.

I use a Permatex spray paint for that problem. My brakes never squeal despite the Ohio weather I have that is conducive to that problem.

So I checked out everything including the dust plate. All is good. Still squeals. Now, the pads are making a clapping sound when I'm not braking at low speeds. COMPLETELY obnoxious and embarrassing! I'm so stuff here I don't know what to do. I mean, these are brand new pads and rotors all the way around. It's just the drivers side rear doing it though. Swapped the pads back around the original sides and it's worse.

Nope, they're all brand new brakes like I said. Nothing there, cleaned anyways but no difference.

Clean doesnt mean anything. Some pads come with a damping material already painted on. OEM used stainless shims to prevent squeal. What are you using? I havent seen anything in your posts showing you have anything between the pad and piston.

There wasnt anything (shims) in between the pad and pistons when I changed them. The reason I changed them was because they were squealing, and of course threy still. So, that may just explain why they're acting up like this.

So I got some shims and put them in. You're not gonna believe this, didn't do a damn thing... I'm about to lose my mind.

Yes I used the ainti-squeal and all the pads and rotors are brand new so, no, the tabs are even close.

I'm 100% sure. I've been trying different stuff almost everyday for the last 3 months. Shouldnt be the carrier bearing because it only does it while braking. Not to mention the pads still sound loose in there even with the shims put in.

If they sound loose, either the anti-rattle springs are loose, or the pistons aren't holding the pads close enough to the rotor for some reason. A stuck piston could cause that, and a squeal if the pad isn't pressing evenly.

Hmmm anti-rattle springs... where SHOULD those be located? I think we're getting somewhere.

#21 ·
Oh ok, the little retainer that keep the two caliper pins intact, right?

#24 ·
Well I'll check out this spring first before I go spend another $30-$40 plus another week for shipping.

OK sorry I just realized you were talking about the T-clip (spring). The old one popped out before but its back in and been holding so I can't be that. Nothing's different from the driver to pass side I just don't get it. They seem to get noisier by the day too. So I would imagine, whatever's causing the rattle is also causing the squeaking.

Sooo it apparently isn't any of the above! Get this... it's a wheel bearing all along. Yeah, came up to Eugene's (russianvr4) shop today and someone there notice that very wheel was pretty wobbly (can't feel it while driving). So I told Eugene and he said yeah that's gotta be it, causing the rotors to wobble as if it was warped and the pads are hitting unevenly. What explains everything, is that it actually tracks back to the accident my car was in two Octobers ago. So technically the body shop didn't get everything back to 100% that had been damaged by Mr. Curb. I'll update Tuesday when they're installed.
