Syncro's, linkage or both???

I've been having issues with shifting into gears, especially the lower ones. Now every once and awhile when turning a corner and downshifting the tranny grinds. I've also noticed that when I have the car in gear there is quite a bit of side to side movement in the shifter arm. I am wondering if my syncro's are going or is the slop in the shifter linkage causing it because it's not allowing me to shift properly.

Curt, side to side movement in the shifter arm is one of three things...

1) Your spring is worn, or put on incorrectly.
2) The "bushing at the bottom of the shifter is worn/broke.
3) The nut on the arm is loose.

I honestly can't understand why people complain about this sloppiness all the time.
I've had my shifter on since the day it was finished, and I can honestly say that I have very LITTLE side to side movement in mine (although, I really don't beat on mine).

Do you have pictures of the install?
Have you checked that bottom "bushing", if its worn or broke, it may make finding gears hard.

Have you tried putting back on the stock shifter to see if it performs the same?

Bob,

The only reason why I mentioned the side to side (sloppiness) is because it's pretty big. I'm talking 1/8- 1/2 inch. I'll check the spring and bushing at the bottom and see how that looks. I'll get a pic and let you take a gander at it.
