My aftermarket clutch welded its self to the pressure plate the other day and now I need to replace those two as well replace the flywheel. I'm asking what type of clutch does everyone think is worth buying and running with. I have made a poll. Please pick one and explain why you picked it. Also would you recommend a full face or puck design?

My car puts down 490-510 awhp with the tq to go with it. I use it for street driving, NHRA racing, and SCCA racing.

PS. I also uploaded the pics of damage for your enjoyment :p

That was some severe overheating!!

I choose Exedy, and after I discovered them I found out that it is a popular brand for the SCCA crowd.

I hope whatever you pick it holds up better that the one on the pics!

RPS 6 puck. The puck clutch handles the heat of racing way better than a full face.

Just rememeber to use the clutch. The RPS is strong enough where it'll grab 100% when you let it and that usually leads to broken shit. The full faces are nice when running just enough clutch since they will slip a bit and not shock load anything as badly as a clutch thats too powerful.

South bend stage 3 puck is what you need. I beat the crap of mine daily 45,000 miles later = no problems

They are expensive, but if are already on your second clutch, you are already approximately $1300 in the hole if you include the flywheel!!!!

Not so far fetched if you lunch one or two more clutches racing!!!

You are correct sir. The only problem is that I would have to wait for about the next six months to save up that much money for that clutch, while the car sits there. I've already waited 1yr and half on IPS and then another 7 months on my transmission rebuild. I've had this car for 3 years and have only driven it about 1/2 a year. :(

On the good side of things... my car will have lower miles on it than other 97's

Ray P is running the rps 6 puck in his mid 10 second car, id say he beats on that car plenty. Dollar for dollar its the best clutch that drives pretty well and can take a ton of abuse. Until a twin disc is needed its also the only clutch Matt M runs in his bigger power cars.

In a perfect world, everyone would run a twin disc, ir triple, but....700 vs 1700 or more is simple math for many people.

Since were on the topic of clutches, I have a stock 95 VR4 with 93k. The clutch is starting to go and I don't know much about clutches. I plan on having it run 450 - 500hp by next summer and its currently my daily driver. Any recommendations on a clutch I should go with.

Maybe stock for now till you actually need the upgrade. In my experience, I purchased an RPS carbon / carbon because I told myself I was going to have a car that would put down somewhere in the vicinity of 700hp. Well years later and I'm still not even close. If I had it to do differently, I would have saved the money I would have spent on an upgraded clutch and just gone with a stock setup until I actually needed it and spent the money on actually getting me closer to "actually needing it"
