I hope you know how hard that thing is going to be to steer... Welded diffs and spools are for drag cars.

I'm letting the RTV cure until about noon. Then I will take it for a spin. I will let ya'll know how it goes.

It has been raining since yesterday afternoon, first drive on welded diff with wet/raining conditions. This will be fun.

I just took the welded center differential out of my VR4 which is about as far from a daily driver as they get... Welding one of the 3 differentials in my VR4 was the worst mistake I ever made.

So uh, Good luck.

I had a welded center in my talon for a while, didn't have a problem with it at all. I had mild binding/skipping when parking, but it was way better than breaking center diffs all the time.

Now, welding the front, or read diff on a street car can be dangerous when turning, especially when wet. Not to mention the rotational speed difference between left, and right wheels on the same axle, is higher than the difference front to back.

It's not so bad actually. I have Nexan 275/55 ZR17 on so there is not much chirpping just a lot of shuffling. It rained just about 30 mins ago. Took it for a ride and no problems.

From what I've heard it depends a lot on the tires.

Welded diff=stupid on a street car.

Wow. Ever open a thread and have it turn out to be 10x more retarded than you were expecting?

Its like the OP has cotton in his ears.

Come on guys. I know this is not a drift forum where people do all sorts of things to their daily driver. But WOW, the negative feedback is insane!

Now that I have had it for a bit longer and used it more, there is one thing. While parking in a lot, it does make a good bit of noise. It's a clunking of the diff trying to actually work. :)

But drifting in this thing is crazy fun now!

Coop I drive on public roads all the time.....

ROOOODS, ROWADS, I like the word Roads.

Lol you guys are killin me! haha

What are the benefits of doing this on a DD? It doesn't make it faster does it?

#37 ·
hmm I bet most of you have never driven a RWD car with a welded diff. I wouldn't want it for a DD but it's certainly not as bad as yall make it out to be.

Have fun with it. I love kicking the rear out on public roads. Do it almost everyday...with the kids. They love it too. Yall need to get laid or something.

THIS ^^^^

Its not like he is going everywhere full throttle entering the Best Buy parking lot 90 degrees sideways in 2nd gear redlining it. When the guy wants to, he can oversteer, when he doesnt want to oversteer, I am sure he has the control to make that not happen.

People do this to their Blazers and Broncos all the damn time, and they have HUGE tires and HIGH center of gravity, I dont see them crashed on every corner of the road due to a welded diff or spider gears.

YALL!!!

Here's the thing: getting the ass-end of a 350z around during a turn is easy enough. Trust me, I know. Now with a welded diff in the mix, you better PRAY that it doesn't rain when you're driving that thing.

I know this thread is a flame fest for you, and it might seem like we are being hard on you. We're discussing a point here so that others don't make this mistake. Welded diff on a street car, let alone a DD, is a TERRIBLE idea.

BigTyla what size tires are running on your Z and who makes them?

I don't think it is going to mess up the rear end that bad. I see a broken half shaft maybe but that is it.

And for the guys that don't know. The Base 350z(which I have) comes with a completely OPEN diff. And with a 125(possible) shot of n20 the added grip is nice.

Now it does make noises when parking in a cramped lot.

Yeah they hop and chirp around.

A stiffer lower profile tire acts a little differently than a 37" super swamper, though.

He will be OK. He can do sweet donuts and drifts now, with the loss of a bit of driveability, which was obviously his goal.

If he doesnt like it, he can buy a LSD. Oh wow, he wore out some tires and went through 10 dollars of weld rod...
