iv'e wondered that also, like what happens in 40 years when someone blows their engine in their VR-4 and wants a new one...

 

I might be wrong on this one but this is what I heard via hearsay:

Car companies in the USA are required to have and/or produce replacement parts for their cars for 10 years after the initial production year (ie: Mitsubishi must have and/or produce parts for a '99 3000GT through 2009).

After 10 years, if you need to get a replacement stock that is out of stock and is no longer in production, you can acquire it through a 'vintage' production company.

 

Yup thats true..I work at a sensor manufacturing company for the american cars....and we build enough sensors to last 10 years after production.
