The difference between 9bs trapping 110 and 106 (sticky plz)

I would like to find out why some cars can trap 106 on 9bs, and why some can trap 110.

For the people that trap higher then 106 on stockers, list your settings so we can compare and contrast and hopefully find the optimum settings.

1. what is your MAF setup (gutted/ungutted)/arc2/vpc looking like?
2. ARC2/SAFC/VPC settings
3. your o2 voltages throught the rpm band
4. what year is your car?
5. your compression looking like?
6. amount of boost?
7. pump gas?
8. did you do an intake pressure test on your car prior to these runs?
9. what spark plugs and gap?
10. Stock coils/ignition?

For Me: 106.12
1. Completely gutted maf except center
2. SAFC - +6 for 2000-5500 +4 for 5500-7000 rpm 0 knock
3. .95V across the board
4. 93 vr4
5. not sure yet
6. 1.2 bar
7. California 91
8. Nope, however hear a leaky TB gasket
9. NGK BCPR7ES @ .030"
10. Stock with Magnecore wires

Umm...this shouldn't be a sticky. This shouldn't even be in the advanced technical forum.

Not being a smart ass but a lot of times the difference between trapping 106 and 110 is the temperature, humidity and barometric pressure at the track. A 106 trap speed on a hot August night with high humidity will turn into 110 on a cold Novembert evening with temps in the mid 30's. Also when not comparing the same car or same track directly, elevation plays a role in trap speeds.

Gradual enrichment to +5% by redline, tuned by my patented assometer.

3. your o2 voltages throught the rpm band

No idea - not monitoring.

4. what year is your car?

94

5. your compression looking like?

No idea - never checked it

6. amount of boost?

16 psi pump (12.70s) or 19 psi race gas (12.50s)

7. pump gas?

see above

8. did you do an intake pressure test on your car prior to these runs?

Never checked for leaks

9. what spark plugs and gap?

NGK copper at .028

10. Stock coils/ignition?

yep

I think a lot more than you realize. I have less mods than you including fuel and I probably weigh more than you. I also have a higher trap. :)

There's a lot of variables that you can't really "weigh" to make a good sound judgement. Just the tuning alone, can make a huge difference. Compare with others. Also, find a really good tuner and have them personally look at your car.

I ran race gas and turned the boost all the way up which worked really well for me 109.5mph traps and it was running out of boos big time at the top end. Also, some cars are faster then others.

1. what is your MAF setup (gutted/ungutted)/arc2/vpc looking like?

ARC-2 with 83mm MAS, 7" Cone K&N

2. ARC2/SAFC/VPC settings

I forget

3. your o2 voltages throught the rpm band

.98-1.00v on pump (from 4k up), .95-.96V on race gas

4. what year is your car?

95

5. your compression looking like?

Beats me

6. amount of boost?

14.5psi pump (12.42@109), ~18-19psi race gas (12.1@109 riding revlimiter).

7. pump gas?

see above

8. did you do an intake pressure test on your car prior to these runs?

yes

9. what spark plugs and gap?

1 Range colder NGKs at .028

10. Stock coils/ignition?

yes

My best mph is 110.6, and i've done 110.xx one or two other times. That was with 16psi. Anything over that and I run into the revlimiter way before the end of the 1/4.

1. what is your MAF setup (gutted/ungutted)/arc2/vpc looking like?
Completely stock with a cheap $40 K&N knock off
2. ARC2/SAFC/VPC settings
Was too long ago to recall, poor tuning though
3. your o2 voltages throught the rpm band
NO CLUE
4. what year is your car?
92 VR4
5. your compression looking like?
NO CLUE
6. amount of boost?

8. did you do an intake pressure test on your car prior to these runs?
NOPE
9. what spark plugs and gap?
Not sure at the time.
10. Stock coils/ignition?
YES

I ran a 105.57 with a 5sp, 0 gallons of gas fuel, poor tuning, 1.8sec 60', at the time I had no egt installed and was not pocket logging, that was sometime last year I believe. Maybe 2 years ago now... I dunno.

Trap numbers are depends on the track condition, weather, altitude, driver,.....etc
Many BPU (intake, exh, dp, bc) are trapping 105-107mph and with upgraded fuel system, I've seen trap speed upto 110-111mph.

1. what is your MAF setup (gutted/ungutted)/arc2/vpc looking like?

Stock MAS, no gutting

2. ARC2/SAFC/VPC settings

At the time no fuel control, 100% stock fuel

3. your o2 voltages throught the rpm band

No idea

4. what year is your car?

5. your compression looking like?

New OEM short block, had not checked it a the time

6. amount of boost?

9. what spark plugs and gap?

I saw trap speeds as high as 105.7X MPH in this configuration. I developed a boost / vacuum leak after the 450cc injector install that has plagued me ever since. It knocked my traps from high 105MPH all the way down to 101 MPH.
