The clunk is actually back in full force. Single clunk when starting a hard/soft start, sometimes down shifting/braking, and when turning occasionally.
Today I got the entire suspension system checked and they said it was in excellent condition however, they did say that I had a small leak in my rack and pinion. Power steering fluid is full. Symptoms online for failing rack and pinion seem to fit. You guys have any thoughts?
I drive a 93 base model NA 5 speed. I had been getting a pretty loud clunking noise at various points when driving, most notably when coming from a start on flat ground or hill.
I've replaced the following parts so far and the clunk is significantly reduced in that it doesn't always happen from a start on flat or incline. Still does but also notice it when driving over bumps in the road/speed bumps.
Parts Replaced:
Ball joints x2
Motor Mounts x4 - 3sx poly mounts most recent install which got rid of most of the clunk at first but now its back in full force. Maybe not tightened down fully?
sway bar end links x4
sway bar bushings x4
struts/shocks/strut mounts x4 - little over a year ago
tie rod ends x2 - same time as struts
The clunk is coming from the passenger side area in the front.
Could the motor mounts not be fully secure? Wouldn't think they need to be 'broken in'. Kind of at a loss at what it could be now, except for maybe the lower control arm?
