Lower back pain is making it difficult for me to get in and out of my 1993 Stealth RT TT. I know quite a few owners have swapped in after market steering wheels.
Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced aftermarket steering wheel with quick release but keep the horn and have good access to the cruise control? I know i will lose the stereo controls and airbag.
Personally, I am not a fan of going cheap for a steering wheel hub. However, NRG tends to be the most popular (I wouldn't recommend it, but a lot of people do use them.) Rare scenarios, but the last thing you want is the steering wheel/hub to come off.
I have a Works Bell fixed hub myself, and they offer an amazing quick-release hub called the Rapfix. One thing to keep note is that any quick-release hub you purchase, will extend the steering wheel pretty significantly to your chest. So if clutch/brake/gas pedal length is an issue or if you prefer to have the wheel a certain distance from your chest / arm length, that is one thing I'd advise.
I almost certain, all aftermarket steering wheels are for off-road use only and only have a connector for the horn and an SRS to disable the light. I have not heard of a wheel that kept all features, unless it is a modified stock wheel, or some custom wiring/buttons.
An aside: although I don't understand your pain/circumstances, why not slide the seat back before and after driving? That seems like the most cost-effective, and logical thing to do. At the end of the day, you still have to step in, sit down, and step out.
