Hi Guys, searched a bit and could not find any info on removing my automatic shifter...anyone here know how to safely remove it>? I looked for set screws etc.. and kinda stumped.... don't want to risk breaking anything.

Reason is, I am replacing it with an aftermarket one I found that looks nice.

Thanks in advance

omg...

i'm sorry, i thought you meant the entire shifter/indicator assembly...

here goes:

there are (two?) screws on the back of the shifter itself...

they are where your fingers rest when selecting a gear...

remove those, and it should come apart...

Hi I found an aftermarket shifter that is PEFECT for our cars, and it has an overdrive button on the TOP looks great, comes in Chrome and Black carbon fiber... I am just waiting on a leather shift boot and e brake cover from Redlinegoods.com .... They make boots for auto 3000gt, custom colors ect, exellent quality.
I will post up a pic when its done if you like.

Please help! I searched and this thread was the closest I could find on the internet. I'm trying to replace shift indicator panel(red arrow below), but I can't remove the shift knob(red circle). I removed a small screw in the front facing radio, removed a small plastic panel, removed another small screw underneath the panel, so now shifter is free from the shaft. It moves up, but the problem is there's a wire attached to the switch, so it won't come out. I appreciate if anyone can shed a light on this. Thanks!

While my ATX in the SL was out being rebuilt, I decided to do something about the cheesy shifter, got a B&M Hammer ratchet shifter and retrofit it. I'm only finding one pic at the moment, this was my first thought on fitting it but in the final version, the shifter fit flush in the console. Still looking for installed pics.

MUCH more solid than the stock shifter though. The OD button was wired to a switch next to the shifter.
Ended up swapping a manual tranny into it when the atx came back from the rebuild and still wouldn't go out of safe mode...
