I've read good things about them. Anyone have first hand knowledge though?

I don't know about the Kumho tires, but you can get Sumitomo tires 245/45/17 for $127.00 each from Tirerack. Outstanding tire. Sumitomo owns Dunlop so I would imagine the tires are comparable to Dunlops.

I have the Sumitomo's on my car and I really like them.

Iguana,

I'm getting those khumo tires myself in a 245/40/18 form. I have heard very good things about them. I've never driven with a set myself, but the tire shop praised them highly and the guy actually talked me into buying them instead of the $215 Nitto 555's....so if they are willing to lose money to make me happier I figured it's probbaly a good deal. They are on back order so I wont have them for another week or two, I'll let the board know when I get them!

JagdStealth,
Just wondering what price were you quoted and who was selling them? I've seen the price as low as $132 on this board.
Thanks
Yep! I posted those at $132 from America's Tire company, otherwise known as Discount Tire Coompany to the rest of the US, its the red and white building!
you can visit their site at http://www.tires.com

I must say they, well at least the local shop, are some of the greatest bunch of guys I've ever met. Service is far above #1, they garuntee to match any price on anything (even internet quotes) and they will get you ANY wheel you want as long as you give them a brand name and style. I spent over two hours with a sales rep trying to figure out what wheels I could get in my price range and he made at least a dozen calls to various places to get all the answers. He was the one who talked me into getting the Khumo tires instead of the Nitto 555's that I was going to get. and I saved about $100/tire. They will also repair any leaking tire for free, no matter what brand and no matter where you had it purchased, so if you ever get a nail or hole in your tire, drive in and you'll be out of there ASAP with a fresh patch and not a dime out of your pocket. I really like this place :D

I will be getting the tires on Monday or Tuesday of next week along with my new 18" wheels, I'll let you all now how I like them! 245/40/18.

JagdStealth,
Thanks for the information. I bought the car with three relatively new tires. Unfortunately, I have three brands: Toyo (2 fronts), Michelin, and BF Goodrich. I want one brand and tread design. So, I got to replace 2 or 4 tires.

JagdStealth,
Thanks in advance for sharing.
If you can give us some comparison and seat of the pants info when you get the tires that'd be great. Hope this isn't too much to ask for. What I always look for is:
1. Noise. A noisy ride on low profile tires can really get annoying.
2. Firmness and road feel. Too hard, too soft, just right. turning is light but responsive.
3. Roll. shouldn't feel like there's any extra roll from weak sidewalls.
4. Traction from a stand still. Straight out of the box, what's the grip like.
5. Cornering grip. ultimately a g test but a feels good or not would do.
6. Wet. Do your rain dance and tell us how they do. Hydroplane or cut through standing water.

All of this can help if you compare it to what tires you had on last, keeping in mind you're thoughts when you first got them.

And personally if I don't like them I take them back and get something else. NTW (Sears) will do that. That's a lot of $$ and I can be a real bastard when it comes to getting my monies worth.
