Any way to pressure test the coolant at home?

I have a small air compressor and am trying to track down a small coolant leak. Is it possible to just disconnect a small coolant line on the water neck and put air pressure in through one of the hoses? I dont want to screw anything up and dont have access to an adapater for the filler neck.

Im sure you can rig something up. Just whatever you do, dont overpressurize. Id say 16-17psi max. Usually its 2-3 lbs over what the cap is rated at.

Good idea...let me know if you can figure anything out, I'm going to pressure test my coolant system too. They do make pressure testers though...but I see your point, why pay if you have a compressor (I also have a compressor.)

You can rig up one, just take an old radiator cap, remove the spring and drill a hole through it and attach an air fitting to it and a pressure regulator. All for about $15 worth of supplies.

They make some nice pressure testing kits but they are pretty expensive. You may be able to rent one from an auto parts store however.

Just hope its not a head gasket!!!
