An Owl Under My Hood?!

Well, I know that my BOV must be leaking but I just wanted to make sure. Under any amount of acceleration in first, second, and third gear, I can hear a weird howl (just like an owl)...I believe it is my BOV. Can this cause a decrease in performance? It doesn't feel much slower but I haven't driven fast for a long time. Thanks!

I had an HKS super seq bov, and under boost in any gear i get the howl. ive had the car in storage and in the shop for the last 1 year and half, so its been forever since ive driven it, but im told to check my intercooler seals and pipes.

but it sounds like an owl not hooting but howling consistantly infront of a megaphone. it almost sounds like its coming from the rear of the car.. i don't know why that is.

it wont hurt performance its just that boost is leaking where it shouldnt be..its not anything bad, but a new BOV will take care of it. if you get an open loop, ie trubo xs rfl, you may have stalling problems or run rich. if you get closed loop you will be better off. the stock one is closed loop and it works well with the MAF for recirculation of air, an open loop will release this air, causing rich conditions and stalling sometimes....

i have the rfl , and i honestly believe open loop does not cause problems unless you dont install it correctly. but if you want a cheap after market blow off valve get the type H and run it open loop and if you want you could run it closed loop. i think the type H sounds much better and you could have the option to run closed loop .
and that leak (goose noise) definately hurts performance

I just got back from town and I can agree, the owl seems to come from the rear sometimes:p Weird! I guess I will have to ignore the wise animal for now. My rear rotors are warped...I am going to see if I can get them turned tomorrow. Thanks!

when my car made that sound it sounded like it was coming from underneath the car right under my seat:eek: so i asked about it and i realized that it was still only the bov, changed it, and it was gone. but it was still crazy that i heard it from underneath the car.

Where do you get these? How much do they run?

so i asked about it and i realized that it was still only the bov, changed it, and it was gone.
You changed it with an aftermarket BOV? or a stock BOV? Stock BOVs are pretty cheap on here, but I think they tend to leak, right?

actually yes, i stand corrected, i previously mentioned it DIDNT hurt performance, im sorry, i was confused with, will it hurt the actual car, no it shouldnt, but performance wise yes, when you get up around 5500rpms you'll notice the car hesitate and you can feel it studder i guess is the best way to put it. sorry for the confusion.

I bought the RFL and absolutely love it.

Took me about 5 minutes to install...but I cut corners. I left my original one to block off the intake track hole. Also makes it easier to put back when smog check comes around again :p
