6g72 sohc to dohc to dohc tt?

Well here is the deal for one i do not own a stealth or a 3000- BUT- i have been looking into the 6g72 motor and not alot of people know about it its seems to me- so i thought to come here to ask you all seeing that you all got some varient of the 6g72 motor.

Now i am looking at buying a duster or shadow for the complete and utter sleeper affect- i got a fiero that is soon to have a 327 in the back of it for speed the 327 dynoed at 350 crank hp so that should be putting me in the low 12s.

The early 90's dodge shadow ES had the 3.0 6g72 motor and had an option of a base 5 speed. The veriosn of the 6g72 it had was the sohc. So for one can i just swap over the dohc top end to the sohc or will i need an entire dohc engine for the impossibility of this?

Then my second question would be if i need to swap in the enire dohc motor is that hooked to a fwd bolt pattern so it WILL work with the tranny in the shadow homalogens?

Next is now that i have gone to dohc in one way or another- in the dohc twin turbo motor are those different pistons or a different bottem end in anyway then the sohc or the NA dohc 6g72?

If it is different- is it all swapable over to the sohc?

If not where would you recomend finding forged pistons/rods/rings/bearings to run say 15 pounds at the engine.

Thank you to anyone that will probide their time and knowledge into this matter. ;)

I can answer a few of those questions. The N/A and twin-turbo DOHC diffentely use different heads and pistons. I'm pretty sure that the SOHC and the DOHC have different compression ratios which means that you can't just swap heads from a DOHC to a SOHC. If you only want to run 15 psi you don't need any upgraded internals. The stock VR4 block can easily handle 15 psi without any issues assuming everything is in good working condition.

I'm not sure if you can bolt a DOHC block up to the trans in the shadow, but I'm sure that your going to have trans issues down the road anyway if your putting that much more power through it than it was designed to with stand.

alright - the thing with the tranny is one of two things-

i could use the fwd tranny from the ( i think) SL model that was in your guys stealth/3000gts' BUT is that trans logitual or transersely mounting the v6?

Also from myunderstanding the 5 speed trans they put in the old turbo dodges held up pretty well. Just look at the cars that had 3.0 in them as a NA sohc or DOHC. I have yet to figure out which ones had either or.

You guys remeber the turbo 2.5 L4? 210hp- i am just thinking baout tq that is what will blow the trans.

as for the tranny what is up with the 5 speed manual trans fwd in the SL modle?

Does it have a name like 40l80e or som code name of the sort?

Also i know the getreg had probs somthing about the 5th gear- so how is the 5 speed hold up? how much power can you through at it?

And is the enigne in the 3si transversly moutned or logituadally?

The engine in 3Si is a pentium 3 with 1 gig of ram..
the engine in a 3S is transversly mounted ;) :D

(just givin' ya a hard time :) )

I know of at least one project where a DOHC TT was swapped into a Dodge Caravan AWD with very little trouble..talk about a sleeper.
There shouldn't be too many issues doing the same with any of the Chrysler platforms that used the mitsubishi engines.

SWEET! thats what i thought! - Alright which or the 5 speeds will hold to the most power that hooks up to the 3.0 tt is what I would LOVE to know now. Cause that is all i would want to know.

A caravan! LOL that is AWSOME! i can just imagine the vette that was like WTF! LOL i love dodge and mistu man! They ALWAYS have the coolest craziest crap and they make it easy as heck- i got a fiero and man is that thing a pain in the arse!

hey im looking at doing this swap myself... if anyone can refrence me toward somewhere that has already done the swap it would help out alot... most of the things im worring about are the space issuses. There isnt much room behind the stock sohc 3.0 where the exhaust manifold is in the duster so i can just imagine how much less room there would be with the dohc and turbo's.

I'd say you guys should take a stroll over to allpar.com or turbododge.com if you want more specif answers about these swaps. There are some really good guys on there that will have some answers for you. Another thing to keep in mind about all of this is the on the EEk cars (spirits, shaddows, dusters, etc..) and the 3000gt's and stealths is that the engines are mounted opposite. In the EEKs the tranny is on the drivers side and in the 3000gts and stealths the tranny is on the passenger side.
