1) How hard to replace the power antenna? My woman took the car to a car wash and left the antenna up, and now it wont go all the way back in... how expensive for the parts?

2) I know that my DSM has to have the BOV recirculated if I dont have a VPC - can my vr4 vent to air?

Q 1: I've replaced 2 of these things w/ just a "universal" but if you want a direct oem replacement , msg mykiss69 (he deals in used 3/s cars) or go to mitsupartsdirect.com they have great oem prices on new parts

my bad i forgot about Q 2:
Yes it can vent to air, in fact, most aftermarket ones do. I have the turbo XS RFL bov, and its probably the most popular one on this board. Its cheap, effective and sounds AWESOME. I think i got mine from..

It's easy unless the plastic gear rack is broken off down inside the motor housing assy. Then it's a PITA to get the thing apart.

so it should be pretty easy right?
its not too hard.. gotta take out the spare and the whole rear panel and bend the one on the left... it takes a good 3-4 hours i'd say bu its not "hard" per say...

To run an Open Air BOV it is better to have an AFC that has a circuit designed to overcome the rich state that will occur between shifts. Otherwise you do run the risk of stalling.

Furthermore, there is NO performance gain with Open versus closed BOVs, just a sound factor

-it's not that difficult at all to fix (search for my user name and you'll see my directions)

-I currently run an open atmosphere w/ my Turbo XS RFL and my car runs perfect! (I highly doubt that I could do this with the OEM BOV) No stumbling or stalling, it's fine. So I guess the answer is YES. And....I've had and have DSM's...you don't need a VPC to run open atmosphere-it helps, true, but if you have an aftermarket BOV, you should be able to dial it in to run open atmosphere.

GOOD LUCK!!!

hey, IPO

I thought that the Karman sensor in our cars made that option on the AFC ineffective (I could be VERY wrong though-you know more than I).

How do you have yours set up? thanks!

Have mine setup with the HKS AFR and set to Open BOV. Without the setting on it does get rich and tends to stumble a bit.

IPO

Thanks!! I'll look and see about my AFC (soon to be AFC II).

Take care!!

3-4 hours? lol, i took EVERY panel out of the trunk yesterday to install my strut bar and it only took me an hour before i had it all back together. Dont scare the guy ;)

well if you are going to do it right, its gonna take a while.. i like to take my time and make sure everything is right, i also make sure that my antenna ONLY comes up when my radio is on, not when my head unit is on.. (only an issue if you have an aftermarket head unit)

but he's right, if you just do an oem swap, and have factory head unity, its like an hour...

I was like, 3-4 hours? wtf? maybe i'll just learn to live with it... LOL... So how does one DO it? Do you just unscrew it and lift out or what?
Its easy... u know where u power antennae is.. so just di that direction... u'll need to

1. take out spare tire and compartments
2. Remove rear plastic trim
3. remove almost all of driver's side bols and you can just bend the platic temorarily while u work on it.
4. remove and replace a lil' common sense is all you need.

In some cases, you'll find that the antenna mast has corroded severly at it's base and has frozen itself to the motor housing. This is probably more common in the north where salty water has leaked down under the antenna grommet and into the fender well. In this case, the entire assembly must be removed, and the mast literally pried out a piece at a time. That's the PITA I was thinking about in my previous post. If yours is not corroded and frozen, then the job isn't really too bad.
