searching through their history you find

"Nationalisation in Iran
While the company was expanding its operations in the late 1940s, it was also engaged in talks with the Iranian government about the terms of its oil concession. Long and complex negotiations failed to produce an agreement, and in 1951 the Iranian government passed legislation nationalising the company's assets in Iran, then Britain's largest single overseas investment. The nationalisation precipitated a major international crisis in which the British and US governments became deeply involved. The company's operations in Iran were brought to a halt.

Only after three years of intensive negotiations was the crisis resolved by the formation of a consortium of oil companies, which, by agreement with the Iranian government, re-started the Iranian oil industry in 1954. Anglo-Iranian - which was renamed The British Petroleum Company in 1954 - held a 40% share in the consortium. "

Ummm, no, they changed names a few years ago. It now stands for "Beyond Petroleum". I had family working for them during the name change. Basically they changed names cuz they're no longer british with all the mergers and stuff (with amaco and arco) and they also are doing research in other energy areas... so after they merged with Arco, they change from BP-Amaco to just BP but BP stands for Beyond Petroleum, they also spent millions designing their new logo (the yellow and green splash), there was a big event when they unveiled it.

I always thought it looked like a green flower...but I've never really focused on it that much. I have seen the commericial though when they say at the end beyond petroleum, so I guessed thats what it meant.

I work for BP, and to this day unfortunately we still stick to the BP/Amoco...

I work at 2 different stations, and one is strictly BP, the other was an amoco, and when all that stuff happened, we've held the name BP/Amoco... Real pain in the ass answering the phone... "Osborne's BP Amoco, this is matt how may I help you?"

I think it confuses people.

Also has the best fuel around... I've always stuck to BP and Marathon before I even began working there. If only you knew just how much some of those stations use piss water for fuel. It's sad how shitty some of the fuel is from some of the gas stations. Especially driving these cars always fill up at a BP or Marathon, unless you can find a race citgo with 100 unleaded, 95, or 110 leaded... Those are always useful to.

Just wondering, what exactly do people ask when they call up a gas station? The thought of calling one has never actually ran across my mind once.
