I'm no legal expert by any means ... but isn't a copyright only applicable to the work of an author - "writings", photos, artwork, motion pictures, music, etc.? I think a patent is what the guy means, and given that he doesn't even know how to spell, I would have a hard time believing he went through the whole patent process.

My guess is it's 100% BS.

I just can't believe someone has the balls to try and say that I stole thier idea an making threats like this. More likely, since he is in Nebraska, he has been to my shop and seen my car, and now wants to copy my design.

You can't copyright making a product. That would be called a monopoly and it's expressly forbidden.

We live in a free market where competition in business is encouraged to stimulate the economy to the advantage of the consumer in the short run, and inventive, adaptative businesses in the long run.

If someone owns the patent to a product someone else cannot make the exact same product and sell it, however someone could make a similar product and sell it.

Even if he did try and copy me, I would just come back and make a better one
Not to mention I would trash his name trying to use my hard work to make him money. I am anxious to hear his response to this one, I just want to know what his motive behind that e-mail is.
