91 TT...last year my flex hose sprung a leak, quick cheap fix, 20 bucks got me a new hose. now i'm having similar symptoms, however i'm not losing any fluid this time around. I'm expecting this is one of the cylinders. It will cost me ~150-175 for new cylinders, but ~50 bucks for the two rebuild kits. I'd obviously prefer rebuilding it to save that extra cost at the moment...but what should i do?

Symptoms:

Gain pressure when car is off and pumped a few times, once the car is turned on, most pressure is lost. I can gain pressure back if the car is at a hard acceleration.

Occasioanlly I can't get the car in gear til i pump the pedal a few times to gain enough pressure. It requires the pedal to be pushed all the way down to get the clutch disengaged enough to shift...sometimes it goes smoothly, sometimes it is a little rough.

No loss of fluid at the moment...

Sounds like a leak somewhere or air getting in. I had similar symptoms when both my master and slave went. Check underneath the carpet by the pedal to see if the master is leaking down. Also fluid likes to hide in the slave cylinder's boot. I've never had a problem rebuilding stock parts with new seals/etc however I have no experience with the slave/master as I just bought new parts. I'd go with stock rebuild kits for something like this and you can get the pair for 37+shipping from cherryhilltriplexparts.com. You might want to check your parts to see if there is any rust/major scratches in the cylinder walls which a rebuild won't fix.

Good luck. If you need some slave cylinder replacement tips I have a faq linked on stealth316.com.

I had both the master and slave replaced (it was definitely leaking), but I don't think it was quite that expensive to buy them. I got mine from rockauto.com, and their prices are excellent, usually (probably 90% of the time) cheaper than anywhere else (and sometimes ridiculously cheaper!).

The '93 TT that I used to have, I also had the brake master cylinder done at the same time. Might as well, since it's right there, and it wasn't expensive either.

master clutch is 70 something at Autozone. Slave I think is in the 20's. I'm curious to see how much difference it makes in your car when you change them. I replaced everything in my 91VR4 and the pedal is incredibly easy with vacuum assist removed. I can' believe that my new pressure plate would be that much weaker. My 93 is stock and feels like i'm stepping on a big Tennis ball. If it makes the pedal that much easier I'm changing out the 93

What do you mean when replacing everything?
what cluth,pressure p.,flywheel do you have ?

My cluth is hard as a rock ( 93 tt ), and wonder if i replace both on my car it would make the cluth a little softer, let me know how is goes when you replace the one in your 93.
