Does anybody know where I can buy a real Mitsu
service manual for my 92 3000GT VR4? The local dealer
says that they are no longer available from Mitsu
but there still must be some out there somewhere.
I desparately need one to diagnose a no start problem.
Thanks, Larry

I'd try contacting some other Mitsu dealers. I got mine last year about this time. It covers 1992 to 1996. Or try telling the dealer you need one that covers the years 92-96 and see if you get a different answer. I can't believe that this manual set (there are two books) is out of print. It will cost you about $90 as I recall.

Or you could try here:

West Broad Mitsu at 1-800-229-1001

That dealer was full of shit! It is temporarily on backorder and they were just to fuckin lazy to follow up. Keep that in mind with other parts as well. I bought those manuals for a friend of mine 2 weeks ago. I must say, those manuals are pretty shitty. They are NOT the ones the shops use. They are laid out poorly and the sequence is terrible. Haynes and Chilton manuals are MUCH better than these (unfortunately they don't make them for our cars) Good luck trying to diagnose that problem with the manuals. I personally found them to be of very little use other than illustrations.
My local dealer also told me I couldn't order the decals for the back of my stealth or the dual exhaust pipe, went to another dealer and they said they were just temporarily back ordered and got them for me in a couple of weeks. Happy hunting. If all else fails, go to a Dodge Dealer and get the Stealth books.

We can't be talking about the same manuals. My 1991 Stealth set came in two volumes, paper, black, and I've seen two Chrysler dealers who have the exact same set on their shelves in the shop.

I also find them to be quite useful, possibly lacking in some of the friendly advice that the Chiltons have, but nowhere near as full of errors and omissions. Photographs, rather than line drawings, would be better, but the Stealth drawings are better than the Chilton ones.

There is something in my FAQ on where to get the manuals for $60. Give that a try. I think 90 is a little steep.

Well I also find the manuals extremely helpful if not essential. I have the paper copies of 1992 Dodge manuals and the Manuuals on CD by Vineet Singh. The Mitsu books are different than the Dodge ones in that each supplies slightly different information. I can't say the organization is that good but almost everything is there somewhere. The CD manuals are particularly useful in this respect because they are PDF files and text strings can be searched for. I guess the service manuals may not be useful to people who have hard time following English or directions, so just like to look at pictures, or that do not have common sense or basic reasoning skills. The Chilton manuals will hold your hand a bit tighter than the dealer manuals will. As far as the shops not using the same manuals, it wouldn't suprise me. I have not met a dealership mechanic yet who seems to have ever read ANY manual for our cars, or met a torque wrench for that matter.<CENTER>
