This was in my paper (The Sacramento Bee) the other day. I just thought that I'd share.

Just so there's no confusion, I inverted the colors on the second page so that it was more legible.

Does anyone else see all the BS in this article? I want to tear my hair out.

yup, i live in michigan too and they arent to stict but the city cops are ass holes for toher reasons. I got pulled over for tinted windows. I really dont see why that can be a ticket, it isnt affected them. w./e it could be worse i guess.

searching "modified imports" - what about modified domestics? and since when is having your car lowered illegal? putting decals on a car and using that as a basis for inspection is the same thing as racial profiling! police officers are told not be more inclined to stop and question an african american group of young males wearing bling and what not *unless* they are showing some sort of criminal/suspicious activity. however, we all know thats not true. "standing around" is considered "suspicious" and there you go. similarly, a kid who is just starting out modding the car, will more than likely put some silly decals on it and lower it. nothing about what they have done is illegal, and there is no proof (assuming the car is stopped like the one referenced to in the article) that they have modified the car in an illegal way. to stop and require a check under the hood for "illegal air filters" or whatever else they have been apparently trained to spot, is an illegal search.

im damn glad i dont live in cali - their laws are getting out of hand. if you want people to stop street racing, understand that racing is a club/sport. it doesnt cost money to go to the park and play on a baseball diamond. it shouldnt cost money to hold an unofficial race on a drag strip on a wednesday night. i think people would be more inclined to do that and then pay to race on "fight nights" - friday, saturday nights. shoot, i might just buy some land and do that myself.

cali=prision

why do you people still live there?

Pretty soon they are going to tell you guys how long and often you can bang your girl.

Cops have to crack down on illegal street racing but this is ridiculous...illegal air filter?? WTF is that? It's pretty bad when we live in an age that replacing your air filter can get you a damn ticket! A person can easily go out and race a in a car that is stock as a person can that modifies their car.

What pisses me off is that they say people street race in Cali to show off... My friends in Cali tell me it's mainly due to the lack of tracks (that keep closing because of insurance hikes).

P.S. K&N airfilters come with stickers that you are supposed to put in plain sight so that cops can see that they are 50 state legal. So yea you can get introuble for having a cheap Ebay filter.. Just make sure that every mod you put on your car has the 50 state or at least a DOT legal sticker on it and you'll be fine. Cops hate saying "Oh an illegal air filter" then seeing the sticker that says 50 state legal and feeling like an asshole. They hate that almost as much as telling you they saw/heard you do a burn out only to find out that your car is AWD

That "I saw/hear you do a burn-out" crap is awesome. I'm sorry officer, but I couldn't possibly have done that.

"They hate that almost as much as telling you they saw/heard you do a burn out only to find out that your car is AWD"

I'm not AWD, but I've definitely been pulled over for an "unsafe start" in which he said he heard me burn out, it was bullshit. Then he had me step out of the car to talk to me, said he was gonna give me a warning cause he didnt smell any drugs in the car, WTF.

It's all BS to stop street racing. The most rediculous part is the height of the headlights. Lower headlights do nothing to bother other drivers and what do most of them lower? Maybe a couple inches at most? How about the super brights that blind you or the pick up trucks who are raised enough to hit you in the windshield before they even touch your hood and their headlights? It's rediculous they even have a tool to measure the height for being too low. I guess the Hispanics all have it made in cali, haha they can make the height of their headlights to just about anything desired.

Here in Washington State, they arnt that strict, i have gotten thumbs up by cops in my car, ive been pulled over once in my stealth. And that was because some bank robber was on the loose and he was driving a black 93 stealth so they thought it was me..

Just like how the cops here said my car had been involved in a hit-and-run? (my car is in great shape, and has obviously never been in any accident)

They say random crap to try and get you to allow them an ILLEGAL search.

Unless you know for a fact that a bank robber in your area was driving a black '93 Stealth, in which case I gotta sa: damn man, what are the odds?

That's would be great to hear them try to pin a burnout on me. :D

Said it before and will continue to say it: I will never move to Cali for any reason. There is nothing there worth moving for, and certainly nothing worth putting up with their insane laws for.

WTF??? I understand them wanting to crack down on street racing, but times are getting rediculous. Why didn't they harass our fathers when they built up their Muscle cars, eh? I'll tell you why: Because unlike back then, the average "soccer mom" in a mini-van would not hesitate to report someone to the cops just because the guy in the car with the "loud" exhaust made her feel uncomfortable just driving next to her. We should be able to give these cops tickets because that doughnut they just ate makes it harder for them to foot chase that guy that just took that girls purse.

I live in New York..are smog/emissitions/saftey test's are harder then calis...my car failed testing on about 122 accounts, everything must be corrected b4 you EVEN can get ur Regestration now that everything is tied into the DMV...car doesnt pass..plate gets suspended..insurance is notified.

It really does suck about all this bull shit, seriously these states are just looking for easy money, id rather pay the 300 bucks to "pass" my cars testing then actully give the state the 40.

I've been lucky... never been pulled over for anything but traffic tickets. (damn stop signs)

I'm wondering if anybody with a 3/s has been pulled over in California for a "modified car". I think we have popularity on our side, no cops would really recognize our cars and they probably wouldn't know its an import unless they read "Mistubishi" on the back.

I bet they would pull over a modified honda over a modified 3000GT. That's just my opinion since i never get over looked by ANY cop, and I have 20% tint, intrax springs, and nice wheels.

I will NOT consent to any search of my car under hood. The only thing they could TRY to get me for is a gauge pod, and after they hassle me for the hours it will take, or get a warrant or whatever, I will pop my hood and they will see a stock 3S engine. Fuckers.

Mitsuman, you didn't pass inspection? Do you have precat eliminators? I passed with my current set up, minus the arc and 660's.

I also got MULTIPLE tickets for racing a few years back.....cop was apparently right behind us when we launched on the Blvd. "unsafe start" was one.....I tried the AWD thing, but that didnt work. Unsafe speeds, unsanctioned race, blah blah.

Now if I see them turning around in the rear view, depending on if I'm familiar with the surroundings and have enough lead I BOLT.
The way I look at it is, if his lights aren't on he can't say you knew he was after you.......so BOLT! Fuck them....they won't catch me again ;)

Just so you know I do belive that is something that they just use as an excuse. I have been pulled over through the years3 different time because I was driving a car that someone who just robbed a bank was also driving. a chevette (lol) my 67 camaro (never in a million years would anuyone rob a bank in one) my z24 and my 85 capri with a 6 inch cowl hood scoop painted primer black(once again not a chance). AT this point when I get pulled over and I know I have done nothing wrong I get a real bad attitude with the cops.
Yea I know sooner or later I will get arrested for something stupid but thats ok I like to go to court its fun.

The moral of the story folks is that illegal air filters KILL children.
lol thats funny stuff. But here in Rochester cops are getting pretty bad to. Once summer comes and they find out where a local hang out is, forget about it man. We have sheriffs, troopers, city cops, you name it their there. They pull people over for anything. If you just sit there for 5 minutes and watch its insane. I wish i can get a camera and record what goes on, you guys wont beileve it. I got pulled over for having my snake eyes on last summer. It wasnt even dark out yet, fucker gave me a ticket for driving with no headlights. And if they see a bunch of cars in a parking lot, they block the exists and stop everybody on the way out to check their registration and insurace, its crazy. And if you dont get in your car to drive away they give you one warning and then they threaten to arrest you. I cant wait to see what this summer is going to be like.

This is a result of kids in riced out cars street racing. Nothing else. Kids who think they are immortal when they get behind the wheel. When one of these kids die their parents blame everyone but themselves (or their kid), and voila! Here we are.

Maybe this is a way to help American cars sell. Since all the companies are in a hole, if you buy say a mustang, they don't care what you do to it. Non the less this kinda makes me wish I would have bought that Trans Am instead of my Stealh cause I have a feeling that after I mod it, I'll be getting pulled over a lot. Maybe I should put a huge Dodge logo on the back to show them its American.
