I know a few of you guys are in the Military here. I was wondering if you could tell me if there exists a plexiglass or composite that is shatterproof/bullet proof that is around the thickness of our windows? Ive been reading a lot of theft threads, just had a few ideas...

I'm not a military warfare tactician, I only pretend to play one on 3si... :D

This is what you are looking for;
BulletProof Window Film

Also, per the Ranger manual, mud filled into doors will stop most small arms fire, if kevlar/plate steel inserts cannot be had.

Theft will continue to rise as long as the economy sucks, the best thing anyone can do to prevent being a victim of theft is to quit making your car attractive to thieves. If there is something in the car they can see that looks like it's worth stealing, they're going to try and steal it. Hide the bling, make the interior of your car subtle or stock. Buy an alarm with a passive sensor and pager. Then go buy a big huge can of bear mace and big twisty ties to confront the thieves.

i own a glass business...there is no such thing as bullet proof glass...now there is such a thing as bullet resistant glass...but it has to be engineered up to a caliber...that flim is neat stuff...but it will stratch,...just as it say on the site racerXGTO posted..
Bulletproof Film 336
Bulletproof film 336- is a human life protection agent from planned attacks such as terrorism, explosion or assassinations. It stops bullet and explosion from glass penetration and protects human life or property. Resistance capability depends much on type of armor, bullet, thickness of glass and number of layer. with that siad...our glass is 1/8 to maybe at the most 3/16 thick...plus a big safty issue..would be in the event of an accident, if that film was on the glass...how would you get out?????

why not go with lexan? ample thickness would weigh less than glass...and still resist shattering.
