I don't think in any state you can have them on while driving, but you can parked.
oh, so you know the North Carolina DOT laws!?!?!
didnt think so

NC laws do not outlaw any color stricly, it outlaws certain colors in certain ways

red--
-no forward facing red lights(cant see bulb from front of car)
-no lights designed for emergency use( means no strobing red lights unless its a rear facing turn signal)

blue--
-no lights designed for emergency use( means no strobing blue lights while car is in motion)

white--
-no lights designed for emergency use( means no strobing white lights while car is in motion)
- car can have only 2 sets of forward facing white lights( thats why your foglights turn off when you put on your highbeams!)

amber/orange--
- must have amber cotner marks/turn signals on front of car
- you can have as many damned amber lights on your car as you want and they can be anywhere

per NC laws, no underbody kits are illegal, most of the cops will straight out tell you this but will give you a ticket anyway, those that won't tell you don't know the law

so that means everything other than what is there is going to be completely legal huh? go throw a kit on and drive around at night and see what happens...

i'd be way more inclined to agree with ferraris way of thinking...you put a kit on, you're going to get pulled over...it's that simple.

your friend should be illegal, who the hell likes those underglos....

its perfectly legal to have it, that doesnt mean you wont get pulled over. even if its legal they are still gonna make some money in the end cause your either gonna have to go to court or pay a lawyer out the ass

...wow....that's nearly all i have to say....

so you're telling me that the cops are going to pull you over and make some money off of you because they're perfectly legal? Exactly what statute would the officer write on that ticket?? what judge is going to find you guilty for something that's perfectly legal??? and why would you pay "out the ass" for a lawyer to defend you against something that is perfectly legal???

for someone who smarts off to someone else about knowing legality, you should certainly insert your foot into your mouth.

they ticket you for impersonating an officer, if you get a lawyer it gets trown out every time, lawyer around year have set fees for representation ande usally cost about $300 or more for a lawyer to appear for you but it varies by county.

you must not have much experince with small town law enforcement, anything goes around these parts. I have been told that me and friends would be arrested to walking into a store during business hours. when asked what for, the officer responded with, i'll make something up.

actually, i come from good ol town of scandinavia, wi, a huge population of a whopping 290...i go to a town 20 miles away and tell people im from scandinavia they ask say, "cool, what country?"

so, yeah, i know a bit about small town law enforcement...maybe i just dont know about ******* law enforcement where the officers are stupid enough to make up charges and the citizens are even stupider to try and defend themselves with high paid lawyers against such charges.

maybe you should be a lawyer...

you'd make a shit load in whatever pool you were spawned from and if you keep your eyes open you may even learn a little bit about law. ;)

no further comment, i thought I was having a debate with an adult

there is no debate...if you have lights on your underbody and you are operating the vehicle on a public highway or road, it is illegal. period.

oh, and here's a point of reference, just because im bored at work:

§ 20‑130. Additional permissible light on vehicle.

(a) Spot Lamps. – Any motor vehicle may be equipped with not to exceed two spot lamps, except that a motorcycle shall not be equipped with more than one spot lamp, and every lighted spot lamp shall be so aimed and used upon approaching another vehicle that no part of the beam will be directed to the left of the center of the highway nor more than 100 feet ahead of the vehicle. No spot lamps shall be used on the rear of any vehicle.

(b) Auxiliary Driving Lamps. – Any motor vehicle may be equipped with not to exceed two auxiliary driving lamps mounted on the front, and every such auxiliary driving lamp or lamps shall meet the requirements and limitations set forth in G.S. 20‑131, subsection (c).

(c) Restrictions on Lamps. – Any device, other than headlamps, spot lamps, or auxiliary driving lamps, which projects a beam of light of an intensity greater than 25 candlepower, shall be so directed that no part of the beam will strike the level of the surface on which the vehicle stands at a distance of more than 50 feet from the vehicle.

(d) Electronically Modulated Headlamps. – Nothing contained in this Chapter shall prohibit the use of electronically modulated headlamps on motorcycles, law‑enforcement and fire department vehicles, county fire marshals and Emergency Management coordinators, public and private ambulances, and rescue squad emergency service vehicles, provided such headlamps and light modulator are of a type or kind which have been approved by the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles.

(e) High Mounted Flashing Deceleration Lamps. – Public transit vehicles may be equipped with amber, high mounted, flashing deceleration lamps on the rear of the vehicle. (1937, c. 407, s. 93; 1977, c. 104; 1989, c. 770, s. 7; 2004‑82, s. 1.)

taken right out of the state statutes of your own great state of north carolina, chapter 20...just because it doesn't come out and say "oh, btw guyz, underbody neon kits r illegal," does not mean they are legal.

it does add 10hp though, so ya I guess it's worth the investment! Not to mention just about every person that doesn't drive a civic on the road hates you.:muahaha:

my friend bought a set of blue streetglow for his focus zx4 today, installed, and was driving it around. someone at a light told him to look out because blue and red were illegal underglow colors on cars. this sounds legit because of police lights and such, but im just wondering if it was just some bs to start a conversation at a light.

we live in indiana if that matters btw.
I know in Oklahoma it's just red and blue but i did get pulled over for green. They just told me to shut them down while im driving.

omfg justin

maybe you got pulled over and told to shut them down while driving because.....

drumroll plz...

....THEY'RE ILLEGAL, STUPID.

Ohio BMV little book thing said that everything was illegal here. unless it was red on the rear and white on the front. haha

illegal !!!
on motorcycles different story :)
