Hey, just a quick "what do you think" type question. I am curious as to what kind of HP I can get out of the stock turbo's assuming I do every single other mod (exhaust, fuel, blow-off valve, cam's, heads, headers, intake .. ect). I am thinking perhaps mid to high 400's. But I could be wrong, any idea's?

You are looking at 335 awhp. You are fooling yourself to think you can pull those kind of numbers of 9b's.

Better idea.

Going 'balls out'(or to remain politically correct 'crotch out') with a 9B setup is like trying to chisel away at an 2" thick iron door with a plastic spoon...

... sure it's possible... but the odds and the relevance are pretty tiny.

Just look at that stealth316 picture long and hard until seers into your brain and you can understand the purpose of compressor maps. Those lines represent engine air demand lines given a 'typical', 'theoretical' volumetric efficiency.

What happens when you remove restrictions??
Make the engine breath better??
Relieve itself better?

You drag all those lines to the right. Now as you can see... the max psi really gets a big kick in the 'nuts'(or to remain politically correct 'crotch'). And the high RPM range starts to crawl out into the compressor surge area... basically the turbo will be useless.

You want the max power out of 9B's? 10+ years with a lack of decent aftermarket support and turbo options... you can bet people have already tried it. HP figures realistically would probably float a good deal below 400awhp.

If sticking with 9B's is your purpose in life... Tune and modify the engine to support that useable space within that compressor map region. Probably use race gas... bump up timing... drive those turbos to the bleeding edge... but don't stray too far from the stock VE, definitely DON'T get head porting done. As you can see ... boost drop-off is pretty dramatic when you approach redline (14-15psi MAX). My guess is if you are really super spanky and good at tuning... MAYBE...and that's a BIG maybe... you'll see ~380awhp?

Wow, I guess seriously under-estimated the 9B's potential. Alright, so from here, where do I go? I am looking ultimately for 500-600HP to the wheels, street setup. Dynamic Racing's kits seem to be the way to go, the DR-800's or the 900's. Any other idea's for intial turbo upgrades?

DR650's or 15g's.....Thats what I would go with. Someone once said that 650 means 650hp I dont know if thats true or not but I am sure someone can jump in and correct me if I am wrong. The problem with the DR900 is that if I am not mistaken they are td05's and it requires a good amount of modification to install. Its all your choice thought. Do ALOT of searching and look at the thread that shows dyno charts, that should give you a good idea. Just dont rush into it and get something that you regreat later on.

Yes 13g's and 15g's are direct bolt on but you will only make about 400awhp out of the 13g's and thats with a very good tune. You also need to look at which injectors, fuel pump, and how your going to tune it. Along with all of this you will need a better clutch, a real boost guage and im sure there are things I am leaving out.

The DR’650’R supposedly means 650hp crank horsepower but should make around high 400 to low 500hp on the dyno. DR900 are not MHI TD05 but Garrett T4/T3 turbos. Stock 9bs are not worth the hassle (believe me I know).

You wont get 600awhp out of any td04 you'd be pushing it for 500. Your going to want atlest EvoIIIs, or you defenitly can't go wrong with the DR800-1200

What level of modification is required to get a DR-800 kit into my 95 3000GT? Also, will I need an upgraded oil pump or a FMIC?
Oil pump not necessary, but why not, FMIC yes you need one of those for the big setups.

FYI the highest dyno on 9b's is 367 AWHP to date. The major difference in 9b power comes from those who have drivetrain mods vs those who don't (CFDS, lighter rims, aluminum flywheel). Those mods are not power mods but they reduce your drivetrain loss so the effect is the same (more power on the dyno).

One person will dyno 300 whp with 9b's another with a aftermarket clutch flywheel, and cfds will make more not from the motor but will get more of that power to the wheels where it counts.

Read through www.stealth316.com the turbo upgrades part and then do some more research on the various setups before you spend any money. Plan out your mods and then go at it.

there is a stealth that the owner claims to have hit 405 awhp with 9bs.

1992 RT/tt with 60~61k on the body. This car was built a little(405awhp with STOCK turbos)but now its apart (needs rings) and I just have too many projects going on.I do have just about everything to put it back togther you will need a set of exaust manifolds and o2 housings(I will get them for you at my cost) a DP and some sort of engine management. It dose have a built trans rps clutch 300m os and shep built my x-fer case.a custom blitz NuR spec catback short shiffter a buch of shit I cant remember now.
Im asking 5k obo.Come and get it.

Bryon
i asked about the power, and here is what he said

I made it with an E-manage, fuel, ebc, full exaust(manifolds-o2s dp catback)ported heads and prw cams~both wich are sold now. and alot of time on the dyno.

Thats the long and the short of it anyway.
it's bryan at mead engineering in columbus ohio. it is for sale if you guys are interested. i only posted this because someone said you couldn't get more than say 380 awhp out of 9bs.

if you want, you can get 400, but it's just easier to go with larger turbos.
