What would be the proper size tire to fit on a 18x9 wheel? I have intrax springs installed if that makes a difference. Also, any suggestions on tire brands that have worked well in the past.

The 245/40/18 is the standard size tire. You might not wanna go narroer than that.
You can choose 275/35/18. The 275 may rub your struts depending the offset you got.

Assuming You're running 9.5," the 24mm will give you enough clearance between front struts and tires. However, the rim/tires will stick out from fenders lil over 5mm (moderately visible)
If you choose 9" which is the narrowest rim for 275 ( not the best combination), stick out will be smaller by a few mm than that of 9.5" combination.
Either way, flared fenders will cover the gap easily. Wider tread is good for front heavy VR4 in cornering as well.
