Hey,
I have a 91' SL and it has what I think is called an auxiliary audio jack in it so I can plug a portable cd player or iPod right into it from the headphone jack on the portable. It's not very common and I can post a pic if anyone isn't familliar with it. Anyway I havn't gotten a nice aftermarket cd player for my car because I really like this feature and can't find it on aftermarket cd players. I know you can connect portables with radio transmitters but those are kind of a pain in my opinion. Does anyone know of an aftermarket player that has an auxiliary audio jack on it?
Thanks,
Matt

A buddy of mine has an aftermarket radio with the AUX in in the front of it. I'll see him later and ask him what kind it is.

Besides that, I'm a faithful Pioneer owner, and there is an adapter that plugs into the IP-bus input in the back of the deck and converts it to an AUX IN with two RCA plugs. Then you can plugs RCA's into it, or use an RCA to headphone adapter.

If you have an ipod, and you want to spend money and get fancy, you can get an Ipod adapter for most decks that will charge your ipod and allow you to control it using the deck itself.

I believe all the major manufacturers now produce decks with an aux input. Some in the front, most in the back. With iPods as popular as they are, they've all gone this route. Some decks, all you need is a cable and all the controls are onboard. Others require an adaptor that allows you to use the iPod controls.

crutchfield.com has a lot of info.

I just found out that almost all new Pioneer headunits have an IPbus connector on the back (usually for DVD or cd changers). But you can buy an RCA-IPBus adapter, either the CD-RB10 or CD-RB20, on ebay or bestbuy. This allows you to plug in any aux device.

Recently installed Alpine CDA 9857 that has a direct iPod link. Tried the Alpine CDA-9853 first, with the additional KCA-420i interface adaptor, didnt like the control slide and the interplay with the iPod at all. The 9853 has more features, but too busy for an auto system. The 9857, even with my lack of close up vision, is a breeze to operate, and the interface with the iPod, direct control, charges the thing, everything is a plus. I'd recommend this one in a heartbeat, considering getting another for the wife's ride.
