My friend is wanting to possibly swap his sl to a vr4 engine but he wants to keep it an automatic. I was wondering if there is an upgrade kit or something for the automatic. I can't seem to find one in my research.

According to my search of upgrade kits for the F4A33 automatic transmission in all FWD 3K cars, this looks like a correct valve body performance upgrade kit.

Alright cool is that all it would need to be ok with stock vr4 numbers?
I haven't done it myself but @Chris @ Rvenge Performance run an AWD automatic in their high HP shop drag car, probably a W4A33 which as far as I know is same internal parts as the FWD F4A33 but also has proviosions for transfer case that the F4A33 doesn't have.

Attached is a link where Chris answered (post #2) similar question concerning a twin turbo engine in an AWD GTO. I think his info would be better than mine, but in a FWD I'd think it would be subject to wheel spin from a stop or low speed full throttle hit, which a limited slip deferential (LSD) added to the F4A33 might help some. Edit: An afterthought; a LSD in a FWD car might change handling characteristics maybe for better or worse, I've never tried that either.

OK ..... My brains working slow today :(, after doing edit in last post got me thinking. There would be some extra parts and wiring changing needed, because naturally aspirated engine sl car doesn't have correct wiring harness and ECU, injector resistor pack, extra O2 sensor, etc. needed for the VR4 engine.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. I know they made an automatic vr4 in Japan so maybe I could source parts of one of those but I wouldn't bet on that lol. I don't think he wants to do it anymore anyway after I told him how much it would cost.
