And all this time I thought AWD cars had good 60' times.

I was reading some car bios in Turbo mag. and the really fast FWD drag cars with very tuned suspensions are pulling 1.3 60' times on slicks. It really woke me up because I didn't think that was possible with a FWD platform.Yes I know the cars are only 2000lbs and have tons of money in them I just thought it was a little known fact seeing as everyone rags the FWD platform as the worst option for drag racing.Just passing out info.

wow! I had no idea fwd could do that. too bad my fwd car doesn't pull 1.3s 60's.

Power
Lightness
Traction bars;)

Some DSMs cut 1.4 60's without slick I think.

slick can do wonders:D

1.3? They ain't got nothin on a top fuel dragster's ~0.84 60foot time! Think about that... thats faster than some peoples' REACTION TIME!

.84 is mind blowing.I like when the T.F. cars shake their tires and shut down right off the line and still run 8 or 9sec. 1/4miles coasting almost the whole 1/4 mile.:D

That would be so godamn fucking fun to be in one down the 1/4

You know they use thier clutch pack for ONE run:eek: It has many many discs and they come together with centrigucal force and by the end the heat welds all of them together. Crazy shit. You thought we had issues...:p

John Force is my real life hero.I read a Rolling Stone Article about his experience with drag racing. From living hand to mouth and winless for years and never giving up.When he is interviewed he always babbles on and its hard to understand if he is even on the same planet as we are. BUT he always mentions his sponsors and he always takes the blame if he runs bad.His explanation of being in the car is classic."It's just pure violence."Then he mentioned if the car could it would chew you up and spit you out.His respect for the machine is to the point that its a living entity.I have well read friends who really rag racing but especially drag racing.I don't even bother because if they knew the truth about what it takes to bring a car together for one run they would ball up in the corner and cry.

Those guys also rebuild their engines after each weekend, and frequently swap trannies after 3 runs.

Even watching the Sport Compact Drag Series on TV last weekend, two different drivers were talking like "I think we'll put in a fresh tranny before the next run today". Must be nice to have that option.

In addition to them being that quick off the line, they're already going 100mph at the end of 60' Oh, and they do a complete rebuild after EVERY run, not at the end of a weekend.

They really are amazing, it is crazy to think that they have near 8000hp and are slightly detuned so that they actually can hook up!

only the really built fwd cars with traction bars are getting that. However, rwd with slicks hook up even better! Ive seen a lots of 1.5xx with out built cars. Just a stall and slicks. The really fast ones (8's or so) get 1.1-1.2's. Amazing!

Is that why I always see those guy madly rebuilding blocks and swapping motors in the pits;) I think you mean after a day of racing.

Top fuel dragster and funny car engines are either torn down or swapped after each run. There is only 75 minutes between rounds and all work must be completed in that time. The clutches are also torn apart and the disc surfaces reground between rounds.

Attending an NHRA National event is a real experience. Spectators have complete access to the pits and can watch all of the activity.

I've been saying for quite some time now that someone needs to invest the time and effort into videoing 3/S launches from the staging lights. Most guys seriously into traction will video the car, see where the weight transfer is, see where the tire spin starts, stops, watch for chassis flex... the whole 9 yards.

We think that a 1.6 second 60' on a 10.7@136 run is good??? Most RWD cars are already pulling those 60's on a 12 second car, I've seen 12 second 300RWHP cars pull 1.4 second 60's.

AWD pulls good 60's? Not on a track!

On the street... that's a different story altogether... we had to kill them with their own shoes...
