I have a turbo off my old supercoupe with about 80k on it. The intake diameter is 3 1/2 inches I'm pretty sure. Will this fit on the intake of my sohc. Of course with the right tuning and proper installation. Would this work at all? I have a friend that turbocharged his 2000 2.2L S10 with this same kind of turbo.

Well, its hard to tell if the turbo itself is appropiate w/o the flow map... Your SOHC has larger displacement and probably a higher redline = more air demand than your friend's s10.

You've got me confused. SuperCoupes had superchargers. You mean a turbocoupe?

Second, the turbo fits on the exhaust, not the intake. You build intake piping around the turbo, as the stock piping would never work no matter what you did.

On one last note, a pair of those turbos would work nicely, but one wouldn't be able to flow enough air to keep up with the 3.0L in the upper rpms.

Yes sorry, I was confused too. It is a turbo though, not a supercharger. So If I do a pair of them it should work out fine? And should I intercool the car first and let it adjust to that before I put the turbo on? After tuning the motor to handle the power.

intercooling won't do anything but add extra piping unless there is something heating the air (the turbo). Do it all at once.

Also note you have quite a bit of fabrication you will have to do to make this work. This will not be a bolt-on procedure.

Absolutely, but thats what I love about this whole idea. Is that its My idea that I get to fab up.

FYI - not all Supercoupes had a supercharger ;)

AND there is no such thing as a 92 Turbocoupe, so I have no clue how he got a turbo off his 92.

well im glad you know everything there bud. it was my dad's car, it was a 92, and it was turbocharged. there may not have been a production TC in 92, but this car was turbo'd. my dad probably did it himself, hell i don't know. I just know it is a turbo of the old 92 t-bird.

Thank you. I like Thunderbirds, mainly Supercoupes. The way you started the thread you made it sound like it came with the car as it was in production, so I assumed you had the year wrong.

yea like I stated earlier, I was confused from the get go.

Considering the amount of fabrication that would be involved, it would be more cost effective to stick with a stock vr4 turbo kit. Turbos themselves don't cost very much, so your not really saving much by using an available free turbo. Unless you are good at welding and have lots of time, I assure you that your custom headers will cost about 5-7 times the value of the turbo.

i have yet to see a supercoupe withOUT a supercharger.

that turbo is a small T3. dont waste your time with it....its very old technology.

how would i go about putting a vr4 kit on my sohc. Same fabrication as what I would do with the tbird turbo?

Come to Alabama and see my girlfriend's V8 Supercoupe. Its hot. :)

sorry. the super coupe was 3.8 supercharged only. the V8 was only in sport and LX models. granted they did the the SC front bumper and side skirts around 93 or so.

Bingo ;) It's a 94. I believe that is when they started doing the SC rear bumper and side skirts with the more expensive models. Granted, they weren't "true" Supercoupes because they didn't have the supercharger.

Freaked the hell out of me when I first worked on my girlfriend's (before I had ever driven it/heard it run).

Me: Babe, where's the supercharger?
Her: What supercharger?
Me:

:p

Thunderbird SC's ARE ALL SUPERCHARGED. Trust me I have an 89 sc. Turbocoupes are turbocharged but were not made in 92. You need to get your shit straight before you come in here and make yourself look like a damn fool.
Easy, grasshopper. Read this:
