maybe someone asked this question already?

anyway..

what's the top speed for a factory 3000GT SL(without any modification)?

I BELIEVE the top speed of the FWD 5-speed tranny is 167mph, I know I've had mine up 158 or so

I dont want to ba an ass but he's not talking about the transmission, he's talking about the the car in general. Basically How fast can a stock SL go in the top end.

I'm a new owner, i have a 95 3000gt.

Before i did any mods i was messing around and i had it up to 145 mph, but then my tranny blew :( , so i don't know how much faster the car could have gone but atleast 145 mph

there is ABSOLUTLY no was a stock SL can achieve 167 mph, or even 150..

the stock intake/exhaust is so restrictive that it would not allow it. however the transmission is geared to max out at about that speed.

i toped mine out at about 155 with a tad bit more to go, before turbo/AWD tranny

i could probably hit in the upwards of 170-180 now, although i have not tried yet.

Like I said, top theoretical speed, aka max RPM at final drive ratio. And my RT is nowhere near stock...

damn that has to suck thinkin about pickin up this 2005 honda 600rr but i have a speeding problem and can def. see myself doing some dumbshit. back to rev limiter kicking in at 130 that blows what kind of car was it in btw? Also when i tried topping the car out when i got my down pipe and test pipe put on. the car felt kinda weeker in the higher rpms of 5th. Or maybe I was just going crazy idk

i have a sohc 93 stealth and b4 i fixed the tranny (nut stripped on the end of the shaft) i got some where between 135 and 140 in fourth gear, thats what my speedo said any ways, i wasnt really watching it to closly... that was on a 4-5 mile strech of road, and i was going 60-70 when i hit it... it hit 120 easy but anything above 120 took alot of work, my car also has 150k miles... however im hesitent to post, sence people lately love to flame me... but if you dont belive it stop over, im in upstate ny we can go for a ride...'

I have a AT 94 3000 SL with 150k on it..
I know it not as fast as manual..
However, I have never tried to top it..
I hit it to 130 once by followed a speeding cops on turnpike(with a save distance).. ^^"
anyway..I still dont know how fast can it goes..

130 (I think it's actually 120 something) was in an intrepid. Rev limiters scare the shit out of me when you're not expecting them

Unless you are automatic you didnt touch 140 in 4th in a SOHC. 4th gear on the MTX tops out at ~123mph on the SOHC because of the 6k redline. Your speedo must be seriously screwed up.

That being said I have hit 140 once in mine. Was running out of road or may have squeezed a few more mph out of it.

i have sence done 130 in 5th gear, and used a gps(from what i have found there isnt much difference from 4th to 5th gear... im not sure how transmission works, but from what ive noted theres about 500rpm difference between 4th and 5th... at the same speed)... alot of vehicles will do well over 100 on long streaches, my jeep wrangler shuts of at 105-110 im not sure which... wana talk about a gov. that will scare you... i was surprised the air bags didnt go off-
as from what ive said b4, ive done 140 in the car, maybe it was after i had 5th i dont remember.... ive had alot of cars- you prolly know more than me so i wont argue- (also this is on over a 5 mile stretch...)
another note-
86-honda prelude- over 140mph

I have gone 150, and I am relatively stock, cheap ebay filter/test pipe/crank pulley are my only power mods(I don't remember if my pulley was on at that time)

It could have gone faster with more road.

But yea after 120ish it just crawls... the car didn't feel so safe with the floaty soft suspension at high speeds lol!! Although I have nothing else really to compare it to at speeds +125.

If I remember right the "theoretical" top speed is something like 192 in a DOHC. However, you're doing pretty good if you get it close to 160.

Don't count out the SOHC's...at least on power. I had a 93 V6 Acclaim (same SOHC motor) and had it somwhere over 120 (that's as high as the speedometer went). :p
