If it happens, it seems to happen at the worst time for me... Never ever fails.
I recently sold my 98 in order to liquidate my stuff to save some $$ for a house. Sold the 94 RT to Steph (TSG) and the guy buying my 98 was going to give me his 92 VR4 which I was also going to turn around and sell. Well, the car was scheduled to be delivered to him next weekend while I'm in northern NJ working on another car. Insurance & registration were kept in my name, but I needed the $$ to release the lean on the title. Finding a buy that's willing to fork over that much $$ and wait for a vehicle is difficult enough...
...but now...
On my way to work today, I was driving the 98 (sohc still isn't registered/insured as it needs a windshield and downpipe). I was coming up to an intersection that I needed to make a left turn at. There were 3 semi trucks stopped at the intersection waiting for the light to turn green, and I was making my way around them to the left hand turn lane.
Well, in front of one of the semis was an alley way. A white astro van with a driver who was late for work needed to make a left hand turn. The driver of the semi waved him all clear, and he floored it to get in a small opening in traffic in the oncoming lane. He wasn't even looking my direction as I came up beside the semi and struck me on the passenger rear side.
My car spun 180 degrees leaving rubber on the pavement. I was able to get on the brakes and clutch, but he hit me so hard it made no difference. The car came around 180 degrees and smashed into a fully loaded gasoline trailer. Thank FUCKING god i hit the wheel area of the trailer and thank FUCKING god he didn't start moving because after the drivers window smashed in my face, I was looking directly at the tires of that trailer. If he would have started moving forward, he would have surely crushed me.
Fortunately, the driver of the van didn't run, and cooperated. The driver was a middle aged mexican male with no drivers license BUT luckily HAD insurance. I took his info, police came and made a report. The driver was issued a ticket for failure to yield, and I was told I would probably receive one too (not sure what fore though), but one wasn't issued or handed to me...
I called both insurance companies (fucker never called his company), gave them both vehicle info along with the incident report, and had the 98 towed to my place while I figure this mess out. Sounds like I will be meeting with an adjuster in the next couple days to assess the damage, but there's almost no doubt they will total the vehicle.
There's considerable subframe damage to the passenger rear, and there might be some slight tweaking needed to the drivers front fender area. I honestly donno if the car can be repaired.
As for me, I have no bruising, but several cuts to my face and hands from the drivers window shattering. Neither door can be opened and the oil cooler was busted open so a lot of motor oil leaked out onto the ground. Oddly, I'm not shaken or emotionally traumatized, but a little pissed at the situation.
Now I'm going to be scrambling to get my SOHC street legal so I got a vehicle to drive to and from work. I sure as hell ain't gonna risk getting hit by another inattentive fucker.
