I just have a question. My friend told me today he is going to "wet-sand" his car today too get a better shine. I acted like I knew what it was to be cool of coarse, but what is this really and why is this done? I know you can pay some body shops to do it, does it work? I'm thinking I have some clear coat peel on my front fender. If I had someone "wet-sand" my car could I get rid of this? Thanks!

Wet sanding is done to get rid of little pieces of dirt, bugs etc that fall into the paint when it is painted. It is done with very fine sandpaper while keeping the area being sanded wet. It really doesnt make the car shine anymore.

Don't even think about doing this on a stock paint job. You will burn down to primer in no time. You even have to be more careful on any corners or edges. If you do this I would use like 800 grit at the most. Again, don't do it on stock paint.

Wet sanding can be done to remove small surface scratches and that haze from years of washing. This can be really noticeable if you ever put it through an automatic wash machine. I don't recomend it an these cars since the paint is so thin compared to domestics. I did it to mine and it turned out good but you have to be very carefull and get 1500 or 2000 paper. You also need a high speed polisher and this part can also be dangerous. Be carefull.
