the box will be the template, the garbage can will be the actual shield. i might double up the shield wall between the filter and the rest of the engine bay, so far total cost is 2.00

i figured a thick plastic would be the least conductive of heat, any one have any suggestions?

im thinking with some careful cutting and a tiny bit of weather stripping ill have a very nice looking and functional addition to my bay

I am not trying to be mean but your really going to use a garbage can as a shield and you think this will give you any hp gain? I would rather not have that in my engine bay and lose maybe 1hp.

i think, if a heatshield produces any HP gains they will be minimal, more or less im looking to support my intake tube, as it sits now my filter is riding the wall of the engine bay,

im actually looking to support the maf, filter and tube rather then gain any kind of power..being that they are rather heavy and its going to destroy the filter in the long run, i decided if i can do this cleanly ill have a heatshield/intake support for less then 8 bucks...

i think last time i checked they ran around 20-40$ fabbed from sheet metal or aluminum?

ill get the template started tomorrow and probably have the finished product tomorrow evening..
figured id throw a write up up on the boards for any one else who has a floppy intake problem:D

sure, i have, i had it bolted to a stud, it broke, thats why im considering more supportive options,

i understand the doubt, but ive seen it done with nice results.

rather then considering it a trash can, consider a pre molded support, ZERO fab work..

cut and drill, and i have a PVC support and heat shield.

what do you suggest i use to support the intake?

I was looking thru some random sites to see if there were any DIY heat shields. Now I don't know how it worked out for this person in the end, but it seemed like a pretty good idea (looks wise and "function"?). The part which still scares me is the fact that its still rubber/plastic.

Someone should attempt to make an aluminum one for our cars n post it lol.
