high RPM's between shifts

car idles dead on the nose at 780 RPM ( per datalogger ) however in between shifts, the RPM's are VERY slow to fall, in fact, sometimes they just kinda hang there. I checked the throttle linkage to be sure nothing is binding up, and everything looks good. Any ideas? I do have some reservations about vacuum hose placement, I'm not to sure if this may be part of the problem, but it can't be a good thing:) If anyone has an upclose pic of their hoses/throttle body that they could post, that would be a HUGE help.

Thanks Guys!

As I recall, I think there is a little "dashpot" that sort of buffers the throttle linkage, so when you get off the gas the throttle closes FAST up to that point; then it hits that dashpot's arm, and that lets it close slowly that last fraction of an inch. This keeps the rpm's up, lets them sort of fall slowly, smoothly rather than suddenly.
