Check Engine Light and Gas Mileage....

The past like 6 months, my check engine light was on. I was just too lazy to try to get it fixed. Anyway, I was averaging about 17 miles per gallon on the HIGHWAY. It was slightly less in the city, but that just SUCKS.

So I was installing a new head unit in my car (stereo), so I unplugged the battery, obviously, during the install. The caused the ECU to get reset and now I have no check engine light (woohoo).

Now, when I drive on the highway, I am getting 26 miles per the gallon! I never knew that just by resetting the computer, that the gas mileage would go up so much. I just thought that my car sucked lol.

So, moral of the story is, if your gas mileage sucks, try resetting the computer by unplugging the battery for like 30 minutes and you will probably see an increase in gas mileage. I know I did. lol.

I get that exact problem every once in a while, code comes back as the front 02 sensor. When I went to change it, I had the wrong kinda 02 sensor, and put it back together because I had to drive it, and the code cleared and car drove fine. Now it comes back every once in a while, I reset it, and it's fine again. It's a pain though.

My check engine light goes on shortly after starting up the car but will shut off about 5-60 seconds later. I've had my battery out many times before, and that doesn't help by resetting the computer. I have 88K on it, would that be an 02 sensor??
