You may have already gone over this, but are you planning on adding any mods to the LS1 before it's all done, while it's easy to access everything? Mainly thinking things like longtube headers that can be a real bitch when everything is installed (at least on an f-body they are).

haha its only been like 15months! but I have done lots and lots of research that is for sure.
No dude, I remember talking to you about this long before we moved to Vegas and we've been here 14 months!

Not that there's anything wrong with that, I just think it's longer than you think! Didn't you buy the car before Australia?

Hang a couple of gt35r's on that puppy and see how far into space you launch when you hit boost.

nice tharts going to be one sick ride. I cant imagine what it would be like if my GTO weighed 1000 pounds less.....well like 500 pounds considering I make 400hp. Do u know if the weight distribution and overall weight is better or worse. I think the LS1 is aluminum but did u have to push it back

I was looking at doing this to my RX8 and from my preliminary research, the LS1 is actually lighter than the rotary. I'm not sure the net gain/loss after adding subframe, tranny, etc. though.

No he bought the car right after I bought my black 92 vr4 that we put together last winter/spring and brought to NG07. Because we went out to pennsylvania to get my car then soon after we went up to Michigan to get the rx7.

Keep a close eye on http://www.racingconcepts.net/index.html then - the guys at racing concepts are very good friends of mine, and Dan (the owner) has an RX8 already, and he is planning on converting it soon and beginning production of the kits. They do top notch work, their bone stock LS1 powered miata shop car has ran an 11.5@120, on drag radials :bigthumb:

Dan has had an LS1 FD (I helped build that car, back when I had the time to do it), a 302 miata, and quite a few LS1 miatas obviously, so he's been around the v8 conversion scene awhile now :D He's finishing up putting an SR20DET into an RX8 really soon too (actually he might already be done, I havent talked to him in about a week).

Holy shit some guy's selling an FD RX7 shell for $100 near me. It's missing the drivetrain of course and most of the interior, but supposedly the rest of the car is intact and has never been in an accident.

Months ago I decided to hold off on the 3S for a while and get something cheap and RWD for an LS1 swap, and have been going back and forth between a Miata and a 240SX, but if this shell really is in good condition, I might be the proud new owner of an FD rolling chassis in the next few days. :D

Oh and as far as weight gain it appears that the LS1 swap only adds about 30-60lbs. Now mind you the flywheel on the LS1 weighs forty-some pounds, so a lightweight flywheel could offset possibly half of the weight gain straight off. Or if you don't like shifting for yourself, you could use a 4L60E instead of the T56. Believe it or not the auto is actually lighter by 30-40lbs.

I've never really talked about it on this site before but I have such a hard on for LSx engines.

Can't wait to see this thing run.

Dude just buy it! Even if it's crap you can sell the metal for scrap and make money!
I know! I've been checking my email like every 5 minutes to see if he's replied yet haha.

I'll let ya know. But if this thing isn't a total basket case or isn't stolen or something, it's gonna be mine.

Any suggestions on LS1 dealers?

:muahaha:

regardless as long as you get a decent title for the car get it. my car was stolen at one point but I was able to get a clean title some how.

My car was missing a bunch of parts like interior stuff and it is a lot more expensive to replace than 3000gt/stealth parts let me tell you. I pay about double for parts for this car than what I sell them for on the 3S cars.

I got my ls1 from ebay. I didnt win the auction the reserve wasnt met so i just emailed them with my max bid and they took that. i paid $3750 shipped for my 2000 LS1 with 45k. They are selling for closer to $5000 now on ebay but check LS1 and F-body forums.

I am out in the shop now working on some small stuff. I wont have much of an update tonight. Tomorrow evening I should have some progress to show.

Also, check Pontiac GTO sites. People are parting those cars out left and right because young kids buy them and crash them into walls and barriers. You can get an LS2 with 400hp.

Ok got a little work done today. not too much progress. Spend most of the day tracking down some fittings and what not.

Got the EGR block off taken care of

Got the steering rack put in. I Wont have it all hooked up till i get the new power steering lines to mate the RX-7 rack to the LS1 PS pump.

Got my Hinson torque arm attached to the transmission and the differential. That was kind of a pain to put on. Had to take the transmission mount off and was on my back undeneath the car for about 30min trying to get the damn thing hooked up.

And got my Wilwood Clutch master cylinder hooked up. I had to drive around to find the right fittings to get it to mate up with the Hinson Clutch line. I had to get this master clyinder because the stock RX-7 one isnt powerfull enough for the LS1 Clutch assembly. Its a pretty nice setup and nice to have all new parts. I have a remote bleeder line coming for the LS1 that I ordered from a company last night so Ill have that hooked up when it comes in.

I am still waiting on a few parts and Im going to end up having to start on the wiring while I wait for those parts so there wont be too many exciting updates this week.
