So I recently bought a used working digital stereo to replace mine due to some of the things on it not working. I had to make a harness to plug it in and it powers on and works, but it's having a odd power issue. It will turn on and then suddenly off at random. This did happen to my last unit as well. I'll post a video, im just not sure where to start diagnosing.

Does it fully reset or does the display keep it's settings/pre-configurations?

At one point when I had a bad alternator, it would fully reset/restart loop my aftermarket head unit at idle. If I was on the road driving, after the restart, it would stay on and continue to stay on until I was at a stop again. It wasn't getting the proper voltage due to the failing alternator. Just one thing to point out as far as my experience went.

If it's the latter, I would think it is due to a malfunction of the unit itself.
So it keeps its settings, it just randomly turns on and off and I did recently replace my alternator. But I'll look into more. And like so it will at point stop until I restart my car and it starts all over again.

It wasn't an oem alternator so idk if that would be an issue. Believe it was a 110 amp alternator I'll have to look.
