Hey guys. Well I drove my car 200 miles this morning, and about 3/4 of the way there a light flickered on my instrument panel, but went out after a few seconds. At first I didn't think much of it, but when I got about 20 miles from my destination it came on again, and this time it stayed. It's on the right and the very bottom of the instrument panel. It's orange and you can see it if you turn your car on in accessory mode. What is it?

Probably the coliseum light. It means the gladiators are fighting.

Ok, so that's actually the radiator symbol and it means your overflow tank needs some water.

The real answer isn't as exciting as the first.

At least it wasn't the DOOM light!

I had that come on and I just added some coolant to the overflow bottle and it hasnt come back. On another similr note, while driving I have caught my BRAKE symbol come on for times ranging like 3 seconds to 20-30 seconds, and then it will go away. Anyone know what that is from?

Yes check your brake fluid. That light comes on when you are low on brake fluid. Its the white cap on the drivers side of the car towards the firewall. Just top it off and you'll be all set.

Yeah when I first looked at the light, I was like "what the heck is that, a stadium?" Dad looked at it and said it looked like Gotham City's bank. Anyways I checked my radiator fluid and well, there is almost none  so I guess I better start fillin her up.

John M - Doom light? Haha are you talking about the misprint in the owners manual?

I just want to remind you guys that have lights coming on... make sure you're checking your car for leaks. From my experience, coolant should only evaporate about 1 cup... that's right--1 cup per oil change at most. If you add much more than that, you probably have a leak. A leaking hose or freeze plug is no big deal. Fix it when you get a chance though so it doesn't leave you stranded. However, a leaking water pump, as many of us already know, could be absolutely catastrophic.

And as far as the brake fluid light, sometimes you may notice it come on during hard acceleration. It could be the Gs pulling back on the e-brake sensor or the fluid getting rattled around. However, if you brake fluid actually went low, then take that as a big red flag. You don't want your brakes failing, especially when you're open tracking or something. The best way to check for a brake leak IMO is to put your car up on a lift, take off all the wheels, and look around for brake fluid. Look everywhere, since the brake system is a closed system, therefore brake fluid practically never needs to be refilled--only flushed about once a year.

Lord Twilight - Im outa town and I left my owners manual in my kicked out glove box at home, so I cant tell you what page its on, but its somewhere in the begining of the biggest section in the book...if that helps...

I shoulda seen this coming though...I haven't touched my radiator since I bought the car. Thank God I didn't have to drive much further when it came on.

Nah, as far as I know the manual never refers to a doom light. But, many times a hurried typist here will call it a "doom" light, thus prompting me to see what one would look like if it was a part of our dash, warning us of impending disaster.
