It was facing the engine so the back side was butted up against the ac drier. It has two wires running into the firewall, but they don’t seem to have a connector, just wires in the bay. It’s held by two bolts in the bracket, then the brackets in the car with 2 screws.

That's an aftermarket alarm siren.

So sometime in the past, you had an aftermarket alarm in the car. Someone must have yanked it and cut the lines to the siren.
