Hey guys,

I have a really dumb question to ask of you. Could someone please tell me what a "Type R" car is? I know that there are other "Type X" vehicles and I dont know what that means either. If someone would be kind enough to give me a run down as I am new to all this automotive talk.

BTW, I own a 97 red 3000GT base. Just FYI since I dont know how to even begin to make a signature. Oh well, thats for another thread!
Thanks guys

Typre R is a model designation for Honda/Acura.

Comes with Sportier suspension and underpinnings (chassis), more HP/ and some exterior styling cues.

Mostly Type R vehicles are not imported into the US rather they are JDM market only. Many Type R hondas (no acura in japan just renamed hondas here called Acura) in japan for many years. Recently Honda has started to market a few Type R models here in the US.

MOST of the time when you see a (ricer) Honda/Acura rolling around with a Type R badge they are Looosers wishing they had a type R.

Funny thing is seeing a Type R here that NEVER existed or Never existed as a USDM vehicle. Those are Complete Ricers....

Jspec....Do you know if that is a Honduh Type-R motorcycle? :D :p
haha i don't know. that picture was taken from the last so. cali type R gathering down here by Laguna Beach? or mission viejo..i forgot.

actually the only Type R avaliable in the US now are the one you seen above in the pictures: Integra Type R. and they only come in those colors you see above as well. and they are also limited production. 500 per year and was only sold in 97,98, 00, 01...wait..actually...i'm not sure if they increased it to 1000 in 00 and 01...oh well

it is very sad how the American market ruined the image of the Type R. actually some of the type R driver themseleves ruin the image of their car by thinking they are the shit and race and crash. most of the irresponsible drivers are: you guessed it..teenagers.

Despite the negative image, they are "the best" handling FWD car in the world. type r engines are also hand-built from the same plant as the NSX...and *maybe* the s2000 ( not sure ).

honda does make Civic type R, accord type R, and NSX type R. but those are not avliable in the US.

I dont know ahy anyone would be proud to own a type R anyway. They only come with 190hp to the crank. A buddy of mine has a yellow Acura type R(a real one) and he has 6 grand invested. He runs 14.4 in a quater. He has almost every upgrade except nitrous and turbo. Those turbo honda's and acura's are pretty quick though. Watch out for them!

Yeah. My friend was going to get a Type R. Then he decided on a 1.8T Jetta. The insurance is cheaper on the Jetta. Right now he has his Jetta with a Garret chip and is running 1.1 bar on his turbo. I think he said he has 192hp to the wheels!

Here goes a picture of his car.

Dang, maybe he should let you try driving the car. I know a guy running 13.9 on his type r with just dc sports i/h/e and a jun flywheel. That's a bit between $1-2k invested in mods, but maybe he just has a strong car.

yup...Type R has really high theft rate, and vandalism is common. and yellow car with type R sticker on the side just screams rice somehow even though its stock from the factor.

going n/a gets very very expensive. you can spend nearly 10k in mods and you still won't run faster than a modified turbo DSM..but that's just how n/a is. some people consider forced induction "cheating" :D

Man, screw the Integra Type R. Nissan has the Sentra SE-R V-Spec hitting the lots next week here. I saw one 2 days ago at the Auto Car show. God damn it is so sweet for a 4 cylinder! I even engineered in my head how to get a turbo on it, which looks like there will be kits real soon thanks to the way the intake and exhaust are run.

Yes, interestingly enough, I have... There's a late 80s / early 90s model statoin wagon 4 door Volvo driving around here and the guy added (i forget which) a turbo or supercharger on it and apparently it's pretty damn fast.

Yeah it sucks because they're so rare and some people try to keep them in good condition. Then some idiots break into it and just fuck the car up. Or worse a ricer buys it and steals all his stuff so he can sell it to his friends. Then the insurance pays for everything.

Well N/A may be hard to do on a 4cylinder ... but N/A performance in a V8 is pretty cheap. As we all know the beloved 5.0 can make serious power pretty cheap. It comes with maybe 210HP ... I have a friend with a few underdrive pulleys, ported heads, cams, gutted exhaust, and roller-rockers who has about 350HP and runs somewhere in the 12's on DR's. That may sound expensive to us but it was only about $1,000 - $1,200. Not to mention for another $500 he could bottle it and get mid 400's and 11's out of it ... but that particular guy is cool and has the motto "Bottle's are for babies." Gotta love that. He respects turbo's and SC's because the power is there all the time, he just hates N2O because it runs out and makes the car more than it really is. :)

But regardless the point is I wish I could tack on about a 75% performanace increase for only $1000 (or 125% for $1800). That would put me at about 525HP and I could go eat Vipers like they didn't matter. (or 700HP and I could go eat McLaren F1's in the other case.) :)
