Replacing factory remote entry

332 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  jannoke
I’ve been searching for a few nights and have found multiple write-ups on installing an after market alarm system. But I’ve not found anyone that has removed the factory module, and wired in their own.

Wouldn’t all the needed signals be at the factory module? Power, door lock/unlock, light flash, etc?

Is it not possible to come up with a wire harness that plugs in where the factory unit was and adapts it to an aftermarket solution?

When installing a new system, is there a reason to leave the factory unit intact? (‘93)

I’ve been unable to buy new remotes, and my one existing remote is on its last legs.

I think the issue at hand is that most companies use their own proprietary software and hardware. Creating an adapter harness is going to be difficult since each connector is going to be unique in it's pinout layout when viewing aftermarket alarm manufacturers as a whole.

Check this new old stock for mitsubishi
Thanks- an interesting idea. I think I’d be too afraid of “old electronics syndrome” though for that price.
I have done factory to aftermarket alarm conversion. There are two models so you know - with keyless entry and without. If you already have keyless entry you can have most if not all required connections at the factory alarm. You can add this additionally to you factory alarm if your module is working, but no keyfobs. In that case you will have that green light popup on dash .. i believe it was "secure". If you don't have keyless entry you have to add all the relays for the doors locks, turn signals etc. For those who already have keyless entry you can have 2 remotes and i think you can source keyfobs for these even today. you can pair them with oem alarm without any special equipment. There is maximum of 2 keyfobs that can be paired. Alarm module is on driver side post (where you have you belt mounter, outside is wingpanel on 99 model ). Sorry I don't have all the vocabulary , I'm from Estonia.
