Removing AC Compressor... Is it Possible...

2936 Views 10 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Beast
Well, I was looking at my AC compressor today, (The front of my engine bay is almost barren) and I got curious, does anyone know if it's possible to remove the AC compressor and all of the cooling parts associated with the AC, yet still have the heater and (on VR-4's and TT's) the auto climate control still active and working? I have no use for my AC, and was curious. I think you need the compressor if you plan on recirculating the air, but I wasn't positive if you needed it for the heater as well. Any thoughts would be helpful, thanks. :)

I don't know for sure but I removed the A/C lines
last week, tommorrow I'm goin to buy a smaller belt
as I'm going to remove the commpresser..I should have
the car fired up here monday.:)

hey my name is JOE D. also:eek:
I know that you can remove it and buy a smaller belt. Autozone sells an non-ac belt for our cars. I am not sure if the heater will still work. My guess is yes.
Well, I've got my 120K up soon, so I may just have to do that. Please, let me know if the heater still works.

Woah.... And here I thought my name was mildly unique. Cool!
just wondering if this has worked out or not? I would like to remove my AC on my RT/TT? Did you get another belt or did you need a pulley also
hey beast not that i have done this:rolleyes: but with the UD pulley the routing of the belt the original way is not going to work the belt is going to flap around look at the picture from the pitroad m web site of there engine they removed it but they also had the stock pulley size....a belt size of 39" 6 rib had a little slack a 38-7/8" size would be perfect but no one makes it that i coulld fine

with the UD puley you will have to run the belt below the tension pulley and tension down instead of up and you will have to get a bigger belt not sure what size yet...good luck
I hope this works for you guys - My AC compressor has a leak and I need another one... If any of you guys need to get rid of your AC compressors I am interested in one (as long as it works). E-mail me at [email protected] if you have any offers.
how much of a gain do u think that will make? It sould make some thing since the crank is turning one less thing, right?
its more of a front weight reduction mod 45 lbs and better cooling
Hey Bigkash i see in your sig that u have a good amount of weight reduction done. What exactly did u do? Im looking to get about 200lbs off, but i don't want to remove my seats or any thing like that. Im looking to take some things out that are not seen by the eye. Do you have any recomendations?

thanks

You know I never dude take out the commpresser
yet........I liked the idea of taking out the condenser (
thats in my garage still) cause it cools the radiater
better, moving the condenser out and the fog
lights opens a big opening on the right where I
was gonna run my custom ram air.

I might put the condenser back in and fog lights
on and try maybe to afford the carbon fiber hood with
cold air vent...??........I'm at the crossroads.....
............
