Question about generations

It's fairly obvious what a 1st gen 3000GT is, meanining '91-'93. Second gen to me is '94-96. But it seems that some refer to '94-'99 as second gen.

So what's the general concensus here. Are '97-'99 to be considered 3rd generation? That's sort of the way I see it. Is the '99 by itself a 4th generation? It seems the terms are used in a rather nebulus way and I'm not sure I'm on the same page as everyone else.

Also, I can't seem to tell any difference between a '97 and a '98. Is there any, what am I missing here, if anything?

i believe most people consider 91'-93' 1st gen, 94'-98' 2nd gen, and 99' 3rd gen.

that is the general consenses, although it does not make total sense to me!
