Your torque converter is a fluid clutch designed to cause slippage in the transmission at low RPM. This way you don't stall when you come to a stop the engine can still turn but the tranny output stays stationary.most Torque converters are designed to operate at an rpm around 600, Some race torque converters operate up to 3500 Rpm.
