Rule of thumb Rob:

if you can't identify the sender, DO NOT OPEN ANY ATTACHMENTS.

Unless it's a computer you don't mind formatting and reinstalling an OS on.

Rule of thumb, you will most likely get viruses from people you DO know and will recognize the sender. Most e-mail viruses send themselves from the infected computer using their contact list and if you are on it it's because they know you or have e-mailed you before.
If you don't know who it is from it's probably SPAM.

Hey, I found this bottle marked "POISON." I read the label and it said that if I drink it, I will die. Should I throw it away or drink it?

What kind of file extension is on the attachment? .vbe .exe .bat type file extensions are potential bad news. I save the file to a floppy and scan it for any virus. All files from friend or foe are done this way. If there is any question at all delete it.

Ok guys I was curious and opened it. I know your probably thinking I'm stupid and guess what I'm admitting I am. But I recognized the name after staring long enough so I opened it. It was a short clip of a new plane taking off vertically. It is a bad ass plane, tell me if you want me to send it to you.

Drink it. But wait, I want to drive down and video tape first. So I can show my kids the person I hate drank poison and let me video tape.
