OT: Computer Help!!

I need help guys.
I bought a nVidia Geforce 2 MX400 video card off of eBay but I cannot get it to work. I have a lot of knowledge about computers and have never had a problem before, hell i built the computer I am using right now!

Here is the problem;

Standard VGA works fine, but under the display settings, I cannot change the resolution. It will let me slide the slider to the resolution i want (1024*768) but when I click apply, it goes back to 640*480 and says "Do you wish to keep these settings?" as if it has changed them. I cannot understand why it will not let me set the resolution, i even tried getting the lastest drivers off the nVidia site but the same problem.

I have come to the conclusion that it must be the hardware itself. I am surprised it works at all, it was just thrown in a Priority Mail envelope with no packaging. Does that sound like a possibilty? Bad hardware? But wouldn't that mean it wouldn't work at all?

Help!

Thanks
-Ricky

I seriously doubt that it would be hardware damage from shipping. Make sure you changed your adaptors and completely deleted everything from your computer that dealt with your old video card. Then stupid question but does your Monitor support a high res?

get the new detonator drivers.. think thats what they are called, and that will fix it :)
Yes it is a HP Pavilion monitor with max res of 1024x768. I previously had a Monster Fusion 3D and it ran that res with no problems.
What vid card did you have in there before? Nvidia cards are usually finicky about previous drivers that are not from the same series.

Was it in a static bag? If the packaging was that bad I hope you left negative feedback.

I have had the same thing happen to me before. Make sure you have the drivers fully installed correctly. Disable Antivirus software when you install them.

One thing to try is install the standard VGA microsft drivers first.
That's your problem right there.....I bet just about anything.

You had a 3DFX card. It was a very common thing for the leftover driver entries to mess with the new card. I'll try to look up a solutin for you. Try searching for any 3DFX entries in the registry. But BACK UP the REGISTRY FIRST!.....
Uninstall any drivers related to any video card. (Go to the device manager in the system applet in the control panel and look under display). Then restart and install the newest detinator drivers from www.nvidia.com
