oil filter relocator ?

132 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Elmo
I have a 92 Dodge Stealth R/T TT. Recently purchased it. Upon changing my oil, i realized that the threats that the filter screw into are cross threaded . My buddy told me that it is the relocator, how they move it off of the block, and move it into a convenient place to be changed. There are two lines going to it, and a bolt that holds it on. I am told its a stock piece, but that ALSO it acts as the oil pump too . I was just wondering if this is true, because that part needs to be replaced in order to get a filter on, unless i want oil gushing out like niagra falls . Part is too bad to be rethreaded according to a machine shop. Any input on if that is the oil pump as well, would be greatly appreciative, and if anyone has one lying around that they want to sell, please post how much you want for it. SOOOOO pissed off that oil pump is integrated in, pump had like 30k miles on it.. bastards.

Thx

Sorry for long post

to answer my own question.

There is a seperate bracket that will replace the one on it, in case situations like this occur.
for 91-92 turbo models part no.

MD146168-oil filter bracket ($46.20)
-and-
MD189779-gasket needed ($1.72)
(those are dealer prices, best of luck finding aftermarket.. junkyards usually sell with motors only)

just incase anyone else runs across same problem
Please, please please

Please keep on posting your experiences with this problem. I had this problem with my filter a oil change ago, we got it to get tight on there, but im afriad t take it back off. we went through 3 sets of oil. :( grrrrr. I cross threaded the bottom threads. so this part is easily replacebable????? I know i need to replace it. thanks for psoting your experiences with this it saved me alof of trouble:p

its not too bad of a job. It was a great idea to bolt the filter up to one of these rather than the block so when it does get crossthreaded you dont have to mess with the block. The actual part has 3 bolts to it but you have to move some other stuff as well.

Here is the way I would go about doing it:

Remove the AC belt
unbolt the alternator (may not be neccesary)
unbolt the AC compressor
remove the AC compresor bracket
At this point I think you have access to the oil filter bracket. It is attached to the oil pump, but you do not have to replace the pump. They are 2 different things.

.....ahh.... Matt. The resident Oil pump/Oil Pressure expert..... :D

So do you think we can get to my pump in the near future? I noticed that the damn thing on COLD startup only went to 2 ticks above the lower large operating range line this morning.

:( :(

Purrrrty please? :D airfare is DIRT cheap right now.... ;)

Elmo, I'm sorry, I can't do it. I just got into a fight with my wife about working on my car. If I start working on other cars I might as well pick up the divorce papers on the way home :(

It's not that though though, what tools do you have?
damn. yikes. sorry to hear.

don't worry about it then.

I have only basic stuff. a set of 3/8" drive, a 1/2" breaker with 12, 14, and 17 and a 2.5 ton floor jack along with jackstands.

It's probably not beyond me, I just don't want to do the timing belt stuff on my own for the first time. I can't afford to take the risk of destroying my heads.

For now, I'll just change the oil every 750-1000 miles, just in case.

Hope you resolve things with your wife. Believe me, if you found someone worth spending your life with, don't mess it up over trivial shit. You may end up regretting it some day.

I know I do at times.

Good Luck Bro.

Elton
