MSD, datalogger, or alki-kit??????

Okay boys and girls, my wife is wanting me to give her a list for xmas. I have narrowed it down to these three finalists. Take a look at my mods and tell me in what order they should be put. I want the datalogger so I can do real time reads on my car so I can fine tune it. On the other hand I am sort of interested in the SMC products out there, and they have datalogging. If any of you have the SMC or similar product please give me the good and the bad and if they are worth the money. As far as the MSD and alki kit go the later would give me more HP when I am using a lot of boost. But the MSD should make better combustion at all rpm ranges not just under boost. I can't sleep, I don't know which one to get!!!! Help me out please.

get the pocketlogger 1st!! its so much convenient than a datalogging laptop... then alki... why do u need msd??
Well the only thing about the pocketlogger is that you need a palm pilot, and I don't have one. I bought the laptop for the datalogger, plus for the wife. If I got a palm pilot all I would use it for would be this and I don't know if it's worth the money. As far as the MSD, it gives a better spark so it provides better combustion then the stock setup. So with the mods that I have and plan on getting I figure MSD is the way to go.
I don't see accel coils on that list... :)
ic...

well.. palm m100's r now $99 (new)... its a great lil organizer... I used both the datalogger and pocketlogger... i prefer the pocketlogger because its so mobile... no need to wait for windows OS to boot.. can leave it in the car and start loggin ANYTIME... (laptops usually take up more room and needs to be boot up..) i also wanted to log on a open track.. but the laptop was a bit hard to mount... the palm's shield slids rite into the AC vent~ :D

so.. $99 + $160 s/w & cable is still cheaper than the TMO setup itself... (its $300+ right?? ) but anyways.. thats just my preference... :)

as for the MSD, I would recommend just the ACCEL coils... (for now)..

somehow, i think the ACCEL coils itself will give more spark power than the MSD alone... of course the combination would be better~

I have no data... just from hearin ppl's results/comments... :D
doesn't the msd allow you to set a rev limiter! so you can set to 5 grand or so off the line and press all the way on the gas so you can build boost off the line.
yea.. the MSD has some cool features... if i could do it again, i'll probably do the Accel coils 1st.... then some IGN amp later...
There is a prob with the accel coil first thing tho.

You have to choose between CD and non-CD coils. Stock igntion won't run the CD coils. The amps are all CD amps. Problemo!
Get the alky kit first! If you get the logger first, then you're going to see all that knock and won't want to turn up the boost until you get the alky kit anyway.

oh yea?? Is the HKS a CD amp??

Im getting a very very minor blowbys at boost pass 1.3bar... i will gap my coppers down to from .032 to 0.030-0.028 and see... might wana get some Accel coils too :D do they work well with Magnacores???
george, the hks is a CD amp just like the msd. however, the coils come with bigger wires with a different boot termination then your old magnecores. on the bright side, you could probably sell your magnecores for 1/3 the cost of the new coils + the wires. :) (They are about $205 shipped.)
Ok so if I just get the MSD I can hook it up to the stock coils, but if I go with Accel coils I need to make sure they are Cd coils. That and I also have to get two tach adapters. Does the pocketlogger have the same features as the datalogger? How about the viewing on that thing. I know the laptop would move around a bit, but you could look over at a 14.1 in screen and see everything if you know what I mean.
Thanks Omnip.. just read ur FAQ about ordering the right coils... good info! So I guess if u plan to do amp + coils, u needa do the amp 1st... (or together)...

Curt,

Yea.. the draw back on the Palm is the screen size... but the only parameter i keep an eye on when testing is "knock"... its fairly easy to see the "blip" on a Palm screen when it attached to the AC vent... as for a laptop, u'll probably have it on the passenger seat where u have to turn ur head and look if ur driving... there arent much time to look at anything else when u have to check the EGT, boost level, other cars, the road!, RPM, etc.... :D

but anyways... im gona stop pursuading u into the pocketlogger... they both are great!! :D

and yes, the pocketlogger can do pretty much what a TMO datalogger can do...
Guys, I'm a bit worried about people running the CD amps on the stock coils. There was a thread posted a bit back that the CD saturation effect from the CD amps, was nuking the stock ignition coils after a few thousand miles. I think matt @ DR was telling the guy this, but I can't remember. I hope this isn't the case...

That's why you have to either run the accel coils(non cd) by themselves or the MSD along with the coils(cd). At least that's what I am getting from all of this.

I believe I am going to go with the pocketlogger my friend:). I was just wondering if it had all the goodies that the datalogger had.
