Yes, you can check if it has one of two things:
1.) connection for a 12v battery
2.) some sort of connection to a 12V line (usually to fusebox) and ground from the car

Clint, I still have a nice prototyped version of the active cable we worked together on so long ago (for the PC).... I had to get a large batch of PCB's made. If there is interest/need I could probably revive the box of spare parts to support the "palm" devices with poor serial ports.

If the cable does not connect to +12V it is passive. (Al of the "eBay" cables are passive and do not have RS232 drivers.)
Not 100% accurate... you can tie the RTS and DTS lines together and get enough current from the serial port itself to drive a small active cable.

The only outfit that I know is selling active cables (along with their Pocket Logger software)

So the serial plug on a plam devices is the same as on PC clones? It appears that way from your pocketlogger link.. you will have to excuss my ignorance of Palm devices... I've never had one.

Thanks for the response Clint. Way back when your, Shiver, and I were working on logger cables together I experimented with the RTS/DTS trick to get away with not having to jumper to the fuse box. If I remember correctly I could pull ~20mA, enough to support my active cable, but not my cable design with pwr, and rx/tx LEDs. You are correct however that I am aware of no active logging cable that used this design. *NOTE: I'm not very up on my logger cables however.

Lol that pretty funny. I think I still have one built spare cable (with a pwr jumper) in my garage if you wanna play around with it on different palms Clint. I've since moved on to an AEM EMS and as such only need one cable to support any logging I wanna do on locals cars. $125 is pretty steep for a active cable, even with the low run of PCB's I did my cost was much lower.

By the way Clint... I *FINALLY* got around to shipping out the active cable to you. Just ship it back when you are done with whatever investigation you want to do with it.

The TMO is an excellent program, and will run on windows up thru Windows98 I think. I'm not sure if it will run on XP.

FYI I can confirm that TMO runs on XP.

I just need someone to point me to a code list and what the reading should be and what it all means. Im totally new to data-logging SO i NEED SOME REAL HELP.
I don't have a palm logger but the basics are all the same.
To start off with watch: knock count and O2 voltage

If it knocks and it's lean -> add fuel
If it knocks and it rich -> remove timing (if you have that capability)

Simplistic approach but it works.
